Yellow consciousness shards

Are they supposed to be .. rarer?

I've got several thousands of each, apart from yellow, where I have less than 200.
Also, I haven't found any yellows in several sessions of play ... should I be looking in a particular area? The Big Honkin' Encyclopaedia doesn't give me any hints here.

This is the same world I started back in .515 or so, but that shouldn't affect that, right?

I know shard colors are specific to certain regions. But I don't know which ones are where. They tend to sometimes match the 'color' of the region where you find them though, like blue and white being in thawing and ice age regions, so I'm going to guess yellow might be in desert regions.

I need to get the consciousness shard region likelihoods into the game, but I will say this: they are identical to those of the gem veins.  So if you want to know, in the short term, where to find yellow consciousness shards: look where to find yellow citrine raw gems, and it's identical.

The one exception is enemies: enemies drop shards of colors based on the type of enemy (what makes sense for that enemy type, mainly), and so those vary from place to place and won't match anything else.  It's the actual caches of shards that you find that vary by region, and they're also the most reliable and quick way to get shards.

I've been getting a lot of yellow consciousness shard at desert particularly inside buildings and pyramids. Still find it quite hard to look for citrine raw gem or any raw gem in particular.

Most of the consciousness shards are found in buildings I suppose? And raw gem in underground veins? Coz I am getting a healthy balance of all the shards but not much gems. I kinda prefer to explore buildings over underground caverns.

Shards can be found underground as well, but they're probably easier to find in buildings (as the rooms there tend to be smaller). Gems can only be found in gem veins in underground caverns though.

Yep, to get around in the game you wind up having to explore both underground, surface, and interiors: you can't avoid interiors or undergrounds and still get all the supplies you need.  BUT, underground there are really quite a lot of gems you can get in each gem vein node, so it's not like you have to spend ages down there.
