survivors in the ocean?
« on: August 22, 2012, 02:25:08 am »
the game tells me I can find a wild garden npc in the lava flats, or in the ocean. and since I don't have lava flats on my continent, I was wondering how on earth I'm supposed to find survivors in the ocean? I never get any missions in the ocean, let alone survivors.

I explored several ocean sectors on my first continent, and I likewise never came across any secret missions. At least I gathered enough rubies and dispersia to last me a lifetime :)

I eventually gave up searching the oceans for them, and finished off my first continent, as I didn't have any lava flats available either; my second continent had plenty of lava flats to explore, and I rescued some wild garden age NPCs in short order.

The ocean buildings should have them, I believe. If not, then probably there are no missions at all in oceans like you say. That might have been a mistake on my part based on older logic.

Is there a definite answer to this available? I'm trying to decide whether it would be worth it to trawl through the oceans to find a wild garden survivor or not, or if i'd be wasting my time trying.

There are definitely not supposed to be any missions in ocean regions.

Sure, the missions don't show up in ocean regions when find survivor is used. This I already know. But do the rescue survivor secret missions show up in the buildings floating around randomly in the ocean at all?

"No missions" means no missions at all, under any circumstances. ;)  So, the answer to if there are ever any missions of any sort is no.

The 'rescue a wild garden survivor' unlockable is a bit misleading then. It cites Lava Flats or Ocean as places to find wild garden survivors, but if the ocean can't have any missions, period, then it's only lava flats.

Why are wild garden survivors in the lava flats? Did they accidentally burn all of their gardens?

"Wild Garden Age" refers to the primordial times of the planet Environ.  You can think of it kind of across between a dinosaur-based time on Earth with the idea of a Garden of Eden.  Although, it's not and never was a very idyllic time and humans aren't even around yet.  Hence the dinosaur-like draconites, etc.

Yea, garden != cultivated-by-humans :)  It's a pretty loose/metaphorical term, the way we used it there.

Oh! Okay, I get it, that makes sense.
It's been quite a while since I've played, and I don't think I've ever had much success in the lava flats anyway. That place is scary.. with the best music.

Bear traps are your bestest friends here.  The campfire spell as well.

Biggest threat always seems to be those accursed raptors here.   Though the boss version of the T-Rex is also a particularly dangerous threat.

What always gets me though is that the raptors, a monster that lives in a FIRE ZONE, is, in fact, weak against FIRE.   It's not as bad as, say, a fish that's weak to water, but it's close enough  :P

Your water could be salt water and the enemy could be a freshwater fish. That'd make sense, at least from a realistic sort of standpoint. That or like, the temperature of your water spell is vastly different than the environment the fish enemy is used to, and it's introduced to that level of temperature too quickly and dies of shock.

Anyway I didn't use Bear Traps all that much. I don't quite have enough buttons for that. I should be getting a nice 5 button mouse soon, so I surely should be bringing traps into my play later on.
