Also--Will old worlds still work? I still have my first world and would like to keep it. You said that we'd need to play the intro tutorial again, but will it be necessary to start a whole new world?
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

This is getting to be an unweildly thread, so I can understand missing this:

ALso, doesn't someone around here have a save file from alpha or something like that? I wonder what the changes will have upon it.

Given that we're splitting into two very distinct modes, I can say that the new modes will not be backwards-compatible with any of the existing world files.  You'll keep being able to play your existing world files in the existing mode, but the new mode won't support them at all.  It's such an apples-to-oranges situation that they just wouldn't work together in any way at all.  Not remotely.  It's not a matter of it being too much work or whatever, there's just not the same things in the new mode that were in the old mode, and vice-versa.  It would be like trying to carry a savestate from Mario 1 into Sonic 2 or something, it just doesn't work on any level.   :P

I was about to say '3 pages is unwieldy?', but then I noticed we're on post #122. You kinda have a point there.

There's a fine line between being being not procedural enough (the maps in Left 4 Dead 2 come to mind for me personally) and being too procedural (current AVVW).

This made me think of Valve's "AI Director." If you are going in that route... oh man... I've seen your AIs! ::hides::

We're definitely not going an AI route on here, although the AI Director from Valve is amazing.  And yeah, something like that would be fun someday, if it fit with a project. :)

So this thread has quelled most of my worries it seems. Stuff is still procedural, I can still explore forevers, the strategy is more meaningful, and yet tactics are more important than "have a plan to dodge a few bullets". That's my impression, kind of. If all of what I gather is true, then it'd basically be like getting a free game that I'll probably enjoy. ...I don't think that, with the direction you're taking it, anybody would even have the right to complain. Still got the old mode, and you get what seems to amount to a whole new game for free? That's super generous, and my only fear was "what if I don't like it?" Well, I think that fear is gone. What I like will still be there. My biggest fears really were that the game should not get too 'predictable'. If the experience always varies in more meaningful ways, I'm good.

How's it going to work for the Steam crew, having what are essentially two games now? Will there be two entries in the list, or will you just have a launcher with 'old school' and 'new hotness' versions to select from?

Well, this is getting more and more interesting.

Based on stuff that's been said it sounds like the game is probably going pretty much where I wanted it to, so definitely looking forward to this.

How about enemy (and boss) patterns?  Dodging stuff and shooting back is fun and all, but I think that one is thing number 3 I wanted to see changed a bit, is the patterns used by the various monsters.   I lost count of just how many enemies simply either fired a 3-shot spray, or had the "try to crash into me" AI.

Dont suppose you guys have a set date for when you're planning to announce this?   Or you could just.... you know, tell us now.....  :D

You know, why don't we do just that. :)

BobTheJanitor: regarding the question about Steam, I haven't spoken with them yet.  But as noted in the new post I just put up, I expect it will be two entries since they are two completely different games.  And fortunately there is already a precedent for that with Zeboyd games!
