Glad to hear polish for 1.0 is a priority.

I think it was part of the cataclysmic opening for the reviews. People judge 1.0 a LOT.

AI war at 1.0 is kinda unrecognizable from what i heard, but by 2.0 (which is how in spirit I view this) ai war is what we recognized and is loved for the most part today. Going for a good 2.0 (in this game being 1.0) is great.

I got the impression from the OP, but hearing it again makes me good.
Life is short. Have fun.

Now theres one thing I'm not fully sure on. Is this still going to play in core, a side scrolling platformer like before? I mean seeing Actraiser's name getting thrown in there, then the words Turn Based in the same area, made me a bit confused.

As far as I gathered, it has two modes, one that's top-down turn-based citybuilding and strategerizing... and the other mode is more like the AVWW you're used to, with scrolling platforming and adventure times... but hopefully more directed into more specific objectives other than "I need more stuff."

This is pretty accurate.

Yeah -- essentially:

1. Most of the time, you'll be adventuring around in side view like in the first game, pursuing various objectives.

2. Some of the time, you'll be walking around on an isometric perspective world map (top down like the first game, but better perspective) and you'll be giving orders to your NPCs to go on missions and do various things.

You advance turns by undertaking some specific actions in the side view.

Is there another infodump planned, or are you just bundling everything together as a big surprise for the Beta?

For the most part things will just kind of trickle along until we hit beta, I think. Describing things in too much depth would be counterproductive at this point, is my guess.

Can you say anything yet how you gonna handle the beta?
Will existing owners of  AVWWhave access to it?

Yep!  You'll have access to it right from the start as soon as we start the beta, sometime in November.  Hopefully in about 3 weeks.  Beyond that it will be like all our betas, where people can demo for free at any time or purchase a license key and get into the full beta (plus get the first game as well, in this case).

Any purchases of the first game at this point really should be considered purchases of both games.

Every time I hear Chris use the word "hopefully" in connection with a timeline, I think "oh, here we go..." ;)

Good to hear. And I am pretty sure you gonna satisfy my achievement whoring needs with this one too, but I also hope there are some new ones in there :D.

I just thought about how it would be cool to advertise the game more and I came up with an idea:
Once all customers on steam got their free copy of AVWW2, you could give away a couple of copies (1000 or so) of the first game on steamgifts and tell them about the sequel. I am pretty sure you will sell some copies more and it won't cost you too much I guess. They have developers giveaways now with high visibility, since it is always on top of the list of gifts. However, I do not know how you wanna go about AVWW1 on the Steam Store, if you continue to sell it or as a bundle etc.
And maybe a very low amount of AVWW2 copies, like 50, as a teaser.
Example: http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/4hnZ9/chivalry-medieval-warfare

Or do it on reddit, but there are a lot of multiaccounts and steamgifts has it in it's rules that you have to activate the games you win.

I think you can reach a lot of people with that. Just an idea :).

Cheers -- the OP actually talks about all of this. ;)  It's going to be sold as a bundle, so giving away copies of the first game would be giving away copies of the sequel as well.  In general we've had a huge problem with SteamGifts lately, with people keygenning copies and then gifting those for credit, so that's a bit of a no-go area at the moment.

I actually just remembered one of several trivial questions I've had about this.

How are the demo limitations? Something along the lines of 'you can only reach x level' as in AVWW1, or is it more time-restricted like AI War's demo? I ask because, this almost (from how it's described) seems like a fusion of AI War's format with AVWW's gameplay being brought back to a different place.
