Mobile Space Dock control groups
« on: September 10, 2013, 05:08:22 pm »
How do you guys handle control groups for mobile space docks? I'd like to be able to grab them via hotkey for when I want to move them, but not respond to orders given to my primary attack fleet, while still adding units they make to the primary control group.

I just put MSDs to Ctrl+1 and that's it. I rarely use control groups. MSDs to 1 and then I just select other ships by dragging.

You can disable the "Brave Space Docks" settings in CTRLS. Click the "CTRLS" button near bottom left corner. Next to Map and Stats. Then disable "Brave Space Docks".

Yea, they way "dock builders", things built from them, and control groups interact is useful for some things, and not for others.

Sadly, no one way can really cover all desired usage scenarios, which may be why allowing the players to choose how it works by some sort of control option may be useful.
No idea how much coding that would take though; the selection and control group logic is somewhat involved last I heard.

It would be interesting to implement an command - say, Ctrl+B followed by the group number - that tells a unit-producer which group to automatically add completed units to when they arrive. I haven't seen this in an RTS I've played.

This could probably work well I think.

didn't warcraft 2 do this?
The hot-key to paste something after copying is not CTRL+"comma"

Interesting theory.  How did it interact with a 9-unit selection limit?
