Help me understand Hacking Response?
« on: November 05, 2013, 05:25:47 am »
Probably gunna have a lot of questions for this post, but mostly what i want to know is the "expected hacking response leve." Mainly, is it possible to reduce the expected hacking response? I ask this because ofcourse, there are so many things i can hack, but i REALLY dont want to try and face an extreme forest fire response.. i can get the hacking progress needed for the hack back, but the response level just keeps going up with each hack.

Now i understand how and why the response level goes up (i think), but is there anything i can do to lower it? I am almost certain i saw it go down once in a game where i didn't do much hacking but i have no clue what it is.

quoting wiki:

The hacking response is:

If Hacking Progress is >= 0, then just uses Effective AIP (so AIP after reductions).
If Hacking Progress is negative, then it uses either Effective AIP or -HackingProgress (whichever is greater) AND multiplies the result by 1+(HackingProgress/-10).
So if AIP is 10 normally the response would be scaled by just 10. But if Hacking Progress were -50 the response would be scaled by _300_.

but from another topic:
The response is currently based on (AIP - HaP), as far as I recall.  0 HaP remains the breakpoint where it begins to increase exponentially.

Okay so, if I understand this correctly.. The only way to reduce hacking response level is by lowering your ai progress?

I found that my second quote is coming from 7.006 release notes

Because (7.006 release notes)  response = AIPeffective - HaP
and HaP = AIPtotal - HaPused
and AIPeffective = AIPtotal - AIPreduction

we can now write the formula as

response = AIPeffective - HaP = AIPeffective - (AIPtotal - HaPused) =
AIPeffective -  AIPtotal + HaPused =
AIPtotal - AIPreduction -  AIPtotal + HaPused =
AIPtotal - AIPreductionAIPtotal + HaPused = HaPused -  AIPreduction

so in order to have a lower response you need to use less HaP (so hacking less) or, if you already hacked,  reduce AIP
