Gate Raiding/Choke Points
« on: September 09, 2013, 12:33:56 pm »
hello,

i just bought AI war and all the expansions and its awesome! the game is pretty intimidating and I'm trying to make the best of it. atm i am playing the beginner script and cant get more than 5 hours in. my question is this.

i have read some discussion on gate raiding in order to create a choke point, but i can never find anything that really explains how it works. i thought that if i had a frontline planet and left an adjacent AI warp gate alone i could funnel AI ships to my frontline planet by destroying all warp gates around said AI planet but the AI tends to send ships to its adjacent planet and into a different frontline planet of my own.

how do i force the AI to send ships to a planet of my choosing with or without gate raiding?

thanks.

With Gate Raiding
Gate Raiding = destroying all Warp Gates in x planet. "Warp Gates" include Warp Gates, AI Eyes, AI Warpgate Guardians, Alarm Posts, Special Forces Alarm Posts, Raid Engines, AI Troop Accelerators and AI Home Command Station.

Mouse over a Warp Gate and you will see the "Warp Gate (Full - AI Only)" ability. As long as the Warp Gate is alive and the planet is held by the AI that Warp Gate can send waves.

Without Gate Raiding
Unlock and build the Warp Jammer Command Station.
set /A diff=10
if %diff%==max (
   set /A me=:)
) else (
   set /A me=SadPanda
)

thanks for the info.

can i use this to my advantage to funnel AI ships to a heavily defended planet?

yes

ok, thanks.

as i said in my original post, i took out the warp gates except 1 that was adjacent to a frontline planet of mine with the intention of forcing all waves to go to that planet. however, i noticed the AI would frequently reinforce a different planet (without a warp gate) and send waves from it. am i doing something wrong?

either there's a warp gate and it's a WAVE

or by "wave" you mean border aggression. AI planets have a limit how many ships they can have. when that limit is full some of the ships are freed and they become free "Threat". You can see your Threat on top of the screen. Right from Resources and Knowledge. x threat = x free ai ships ready to attack.

definitely not border aggression. i saw the number of enemy ships drop from the warp gate planet and go to the planet without the warp gate on the galaxy map. shortly after, i received a message saying a wave was incoming from that planet.

scout the surrounding planets if you haven't already. open the galaxy map and press W to see hostile wormholes (Warp Gates). The red number = the amount of AI Warp Gates connected to that planet.

send scouts to the AI planets and check every single AI building on that planet to find the Warp Gate.
