The Arcen site has been rather slow these last couple of days, even with good bandwidth.
The Wiki even more so.
The Wiki Patch Notes for SBR might need to be split into multiple pages soon.

It's something else other than just page size on the wiki.  The size of the pages really are not that huge, honestly, compared to other wiki pages which in the past performed a lot better than this.

The forums have been consistently extremely speedy for me -- is that also true for you?  The other parts of the site are what have been slower.

Forums have not been noticeably slower.
Mantis and Wiki take up to 30 seconds to load it seems.
Not sure how accurate this is, but it feels right: http://www.monitis.com/pageload/?url=www.arcengames.com/mediawiki&testId=127816

Neat, but I'm disappointed that there's no way to "live test" a site.  It is pulling cached data when I try (e.g. you did the test, and the results of that test were saved, so when I request a test it only takes it 0.2 seconds for it to say, "Yep, took 15 seconds!" which is not useful information).  If I hit the wiki myself (I'm in the US) it loads in under 5 seconds (took a breath-count of ~3 seconds; long enough to notice the delay, but not long enough for me to consider it excessive).

Try removing the testID from the html link or typing in a new address.

New address did it.  The existing address just took me back to the cached result.

Okay, I've spent several hours now rooting around in the wiki code, because this was getting ridiculous.  The results: http://www.monitis.com/pageload/?url=www.arcengames.com/mediawiki&testId=127816

It was timing out after 15 seconds before on the test, and now it's 3 seconds.

There was a whole lot of junk that was being loaded that did not seem needed, and I cleared a lot of that out as well as adding object caching in the database.

Quinn, part of that did involve turning off these:
AntiSpoof
AbuseFilter
DismissableSiteNotice
DynamicFunctions
ExpandTemplates
LabeledSectionTransclusion
RegexFunctions
TitleBlacklist
Renameuser
CharInsert
ImportUsers

I left on the other more relevant protection stuff, but if there is anything there that seems more critical than I realized, please let me know. :)

...and we're back to the land of suck.  Quinn, I was experimenting with a mediawiki2 installation, and trying to get things imported over.  It was running nice and fast and fresh, but the importing is hit or miss.

AbuseFilter is probably the most important one, most of the others are just stuff that broke templates, but nothing overly major. If we start getting spam over there, I'll re-enable it, but for now I don't think that is necessary.

I do see the new wiki installation and stuff over here, but I do want to know how you were importing pages, since there is a built-in import/export function that typically works. The other thing is the namespaces: if those aren't set up in the new wiki, then it won't all transfer over properly. There is also the chance that because the versions are different it all is messed up. A lot of the stuff we have is set up for 1.19, although I will look into 1.24 now.
Come help out at the Wiki!

I'm having trouble loading http://www.arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Stars_Beyond_Reach_Beta_Release_Notes#Version_0.817

That is some code that definitely deserves optimization ;-)  Otherwise, I haven't noticed any speed issues. Sorry I can't be more helpful here.

Yeah, the page is barely loading for me as well.  It may time out, I'm not sure.

In terms of the import/export, I was using their native functions but it only works for pages and you have to select specific pages, etc, etc.  I was hoping for a more robust import/export, but didn't see any such thing.  I really should not have spent so much time on this today, sigh.

I'm sorry this is so frustrating for you, Chris! I haven't had any problems, but I am not trying to do what you are doing with it.

My comment was intended purely to insert levity into the situation (i.e. I had trouble accessing SBR Version .817)

Good luck.

Ohhhh... haha, I see.  Yeah, the new version will be out within about 30 minutes I hope.  The stupid @#%$#$% page was still not loading well for me, though, so I thought not for you either.

I just tried several pages on the wiki, and they all seem to load quite quick to me.  I guess the upgrade worked, then?
