Wiki Speed

I'm quite interested to know what the speed is for most people. It'll help me decide what to focus on too.

For me the wiki is rather slow (a little bit more than other sites), and some rare times I have to resend the query. However, I'm living in France, in a student's room with a bad network. Maybe the main problem isn't from the wiki or Arcen's server.

Speed is usually pretty good, but even as late as last night I was having instances of the thing coughing and dying when trying to get to it.

The wiki is a little slow for me, not that bad though.

I am seeing cases where it is literally taking me 60+ seconds to load the release notes page, and submitting updates to the release notes page (which I do a lot) can also take similar amounts of time.  At best it's a 10+ second wait these days.  This is on the SBR release notes page at the moment, which should be incredibly snappy since it's super small compared to some of the larger release notes pages that used to run much faster than this.  I was unhappy with the speed a month ago when it would sometimes take 3-4 seconds to load the page or 10 seconds to do a submit on a really big page.  But now it's almost broken it's so slow for me.  I'm not sure what's up.

And now after killing that tab and reopening it, I'm getting it so that it's running "fast" again, where it "only" takes 3ish seconds after I click edit to get to the edit screen, and maybe 6 to get it to save.  The view of that page is taking maybe 2-3 seconds now.  I'm on the latest google chrome.

Took less than a second for me to load the latest patch notes.

That could have been a local problem, Chris.  Browser running high on RAM kind of thing.  Had that problem a few days ago where I was editing a wiki template, so I ended up with FOUR editors active and my browser said, "hug you" and froze for a while.  (3 seconds is still kind of long, but not unusable).

Then yesterday someone pushed my office chair in and the arm rest was juuuust high enough to nudge down the 'm' key on my keyboard.  Came in to work to find Dreamweaver panicking as it filled up with so many 'm's that it couldn't correctly update the editor window (the cursor was between lines and even after I removed the chair and unstuck the offending key, it whisked along for a good 10 minutes before it finally recovered and I was able to undo the mangling).

I don't know, the rest of my browser tabs are all fast, so I'm kind of perplexed.  I leave the wiki page open, and the longer it's open the slower it seems to respond the next time I touch it, interestingly.

Right now my overall ram usage is just at 52% of the 24 GB that I have.  That tab seemed to only be using about 40-some MB.  But... looking at it, it does seem to be creeping upwards by about 100kb every 5 seconds or so at the moment.  Then big pauses, then it starts going that again.

I'm curious if anyone else can duplicate the "that tab gets super slow after being left open for a long while."

I was updating the Wiki with the Building & Tech tables and it was taking between 5 and 30 seconds to render a preview. I couldn't distil a pattern besides it knowing when I was emotionally weak.

Happens to me sometimes. The trick for the super long load times is to just refresh the page or reclick the link if possible. Not ideal, but the best I have ATM.

So far the feedback has actually been really helpful. I know that I need to investigate the caching and try to patch that. Hopefully, I'll have a solution quickly, but I might not, unfortunately. :(

EDIT: I believe that I may have helped with some of it.

While it could be your internet, that should only affect the first time you load the page due to caching of the information.

My guess is we are getting more traffic there, and the caching is definitely failing.
