I am curious what my steam id is, considering this is the link:

You come up first in the search, and suspect you would even if you changed your display name.  Mind, common names can get lost in a pile of other people using it (e.g. "John") as the search includes "things like..."
Which is why Steam URLs are more accurate.

Just to check that, I changed my display name to "Bluehorns" and searched.  "Draco18s" finds me, "Bluehorns" does not.

I added the Steam Number option, which is better to use than the steam ID, but more hassle to get (For you that would be 76561198015130442) . The steam number would also give you a new button next to the email, PM, etc ones.

I just signed up here myself, and the Steam questions were kind of weird, in that the first one asked for my steam username (which can't actually be used to find me on steam AFAIK), and didn't mention that it was optional.

I did find out how to get the profile ID# despite having a custom profile url, though. Adding ?xml=1 to the end of the profile URL returns an xml file instead of the webpage, and the profile ID# is the number enclosed by <steamID64> and its closing tag.

If you're still looking for an answer to this, why not try putting "optional" inside the text entry box?
