Registering license keys with Steam: not quite yet.
« on: July 16, 2010, 06:04:14 pm »
So, now that Tidalis is out on Steam, some folks are of course wanting to register their previously-purchased copy of the game with Steam to get access to the Steam achievements and leaderboards (and organization in their Steam library of games, in some cases).

This is coming, but unfortunately it's not ready just yet -- I just found out this afternoon that it wouldn't be ready today, so sorry about that.  There are some staff out of the office at the moment at Valve that are responsible for this sort of thing, so hence the delay at the moment.  I can't make any promises on their behalf, but hopefully that functionality will be available soon.

Fair warning that in the case of AI War, there was a two week delay before we had that feature in place with them, but hopefully this time with Tidalis it will be a faster turnaround time.  It just depends on schedules and such at Valve, I imagine.

:( it still doesn't work. *does a mini tantrum* Steam is nice and all, but between the long time they take here and the 2+ days of no online games they had recently...

Well, bear in mind the complexity of what they're doing with 2 million simultaneous active users, etc.   Of course, that doesn't affect this issue, but still they are working on it, and I was talking to them about this just yesterday.  I don't have an ETA from them, but hopefully soon.  Thanks for your patience!

When it becomes possible to register keys on Steam, will it be possible to transfer an existing adventure into Steam?  I have an active adventure that I'm ~50% through, and it would be cool if I could switch over to the Steam version and have all of my already obtained achievements catch up to me there (yes, I enjoy collecting them).

Absolutely, yes, you can transfer over your adventure saves and everything else.  To transfer all your local data between any two copies of Tidalis, all you need to copy is the following folder:

<InstallDirectory>/RuntimeData/Save

And the following file:

<InstallDirectory>/RuntimeData/settings.dat

All of your prior-achieved achievements will be registered with Steam the first time you run it, though any high scores you have won't be.

Hope that helps!

Great, thanks! I was hoping it would be something as simple as that.

As a followup question, do you have any thoughts regarding adding Steam cloud support? I've been playing the game both at work and at home (and have two parallel adventures going) and it would be pretty nifty to be able to automatically synchronize them.

My pleasure!

Regarding the Steam Cloud support, I'll have to look into the API for that more, but it's something that I had just kind of passed by in the past.  For savegames and even potentially settings files, that could be interesting to add for AI War and Tidalis, though.  Thanks for the reminder, I'll have to look at that more in the coming weeks/months.  I imagine Valve will be happy to have another game utilizing that, too.

OK, at least they're working on it.

Off-topic note: you really have a mouthful of a tag line there; i'd just change it to Arcen Games Head Honcho or something :)

Yep, at least so.

And on the tag line, that's true, I went ahead and shortened it. ;)

I may be a bit impatient, but are you sure it's supposed to be working? because steam still isn't recognizing my key.
