Making Custom Puzzles more friendly
« on: August 05, 2010, 12:12:59 am »
I would imagine that it might be pretty hard for non-technical users to install new puzzles into the game, so perhaps there should be a dialog that allows you to install puzzles into the game, or perhaps allow the user to access a Documents folder (and equivalent on linux) to put custom puzzle (directories) into.

We're actually planning to push out new level sets as part of free DLC.  The frequency and magnitude of those sets will depend largely on community contribution.  The idea is that we can use these forums to submit and discuss levels, and then decide what should go in the next DLC level set.  That way the part of the customer base that "doesn't do forums" can have access to pre-vetted good stuff as part of normal updates, avoid untested stuff, and not have to deal with their file-system at all.

Thoughts?

Yea, certainly :)  Chris and I and the other staff would be more involved in the custom puzzles forum, we're just knee deep in Tidalis bugfixes and DLC, AI War bugfixes and CoN content (and then DLC once CoN stabilizes a bit), and then we have the AI War port-to-Unity3d ahead of us.  So we haven't really even had time to talk much about our desire for community-submitted levels for these DLC sets.

But it's definitely coming, and it looks like there are already some awesome levels there that we'll be really happy to include in the first batch of that.  Hopefully in the next week or so Lars or I will be able to go through there and get those added into a new "Community Puzzles" section of the actual patches.  I'm really excited about that, I think it will add a lot for folks. :)
