The full release notes: http://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Tidalis_-_0.854_Beta_Release

Okay, this is the final release before our PAX 10 submission, which is today.  A fair number of little tweaks in here, including a couple of really critical ones for Mac players in particular.  Now I've just got to get the installer packages rebuilt and uploaded, and we'll be good to go!

Anywhere online where i can vote for your game, or at least watch the fireworks? :) I found the pax site, but that doesn't look to be having a ton of activity.

Thanks for your support!  This isn't something that is publicly voted on, though.  The rules, etc are here: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/109801

Our submission is now in, so that's exciting.  We'll find out by the 15th of July if we're one of the 10 finalists, and if so then I think the ultimate winner gets voted on at PAX itself, but I can't recall on that part. :)

Do they hold this contest every year around the same time?

Maybe I'll aspire to compete next year.  :)

Do you know how many entries they usually get?

Yep, they have this contest every year, at least for the last... I think three years?  This is a much newer contest than PAX itself.  I think two years ago it was maybe about 200 entries (IIRC), and last year I am pretty sure it was about 300 entries.  Sometimes I get mixed up a bit with the IGF in terms of entry numbers, it's about the same in both contests, pretty much a similar group of games each time.  Last year we entered AI War in both contests and did not place in either; with Tidalis I think we have a much more contest-friendly game in terms of both of them.

Given that 10 finalists are picked for PAX 10, and there are only something like 6 slots with various category in the IGF (again, IIRC), the odds of being a finalist at PAX 10 are perhaps a slight bit better.  But if the IGF is any judge, the number of entries goes up by 50 to 100 entries every year, for them it's been solid like that since the early 2000s.

Hopefully I'm not feeding you too much misinformation based on my own memory. ;)  Their respective sites have some info on this, or at least on the main penny arcade site I recall they did a post mentioning how many entries they had last year, etc.  Anyway, you might well want to enter PAX 10 next year; and depending on your release schedule, etc, there is always the potential for IGF, too -- deadline for submission for that is November.

This latest version looks pretty amazing! To be honest, this gameplay idea is great.... again something where i can't believe that nobody did it before ;P, if only i'd not totally suck at puzzle games...

Particularly like the drawn backgrounds, i showed the game in my family and they all liked it (though they won't play it before its got German language ... they are picky! ;p)

So yeah, this brings me full swing to my question, when can we expect a German version out? ;P Particularly for the quests and rules they need to be translated else understanding it will be nigh impossible for casual-non-english players.

Anyhow, this game turned out amazing. Literally a fresh puzzler and the most unique one i have seen in a long time... so i think this is a Winner!  ;D ;D

Many thanks!  Really appreciate the kind words, and we're really pleased with how it's coming along, too. :)

With regard to localization, we haven't really hit that point yet; in order for a regional publisher to take on a puzzle game, it has to be pretty popular digitally first.  Puzzle games are a particularly hard sell at retail.  So, fingers crossed there.  As far as what it would take for us to localize it for digital sales, that's pretty much a similar requirement: it has to do well enough in English that we can justify the expense.  I suspect we'll hit that point with this game, but we have to first get the game out and see how it does, etc.

Thanks again for the support!  Phil will be really happy about the comments on the art; he's still working away polishing that and adding more animations, but it's already really cool, I think. :)

Yep, September 3-5.  The announcements of the PAX 10 is in mid July, though, I believe by July 15th.

:o so you're waiting 2-odd months without changes to Tidalis?

I"m sure X has a lot of stuff to add and refine after the launch, of course then there's his personal life but we'll be expecting something decently big in 2 months (new features)

Whoa, what gave you that impression?  Heh.  No, there will probably be another prerelease tomorrow or Sunday, and at least one next week, and so on and so forth.  Our work to get it polished for PAX 10 was to have a baseline polished version in the installer we sent them, and if they want to do automatic updates they are welcome to.  We try to keep the critical bug count low, anyway.

My notes were about it being the final release before the PAX 10 submission, not before PAX, maybe that was the confusion.  The submission is already done, that was on the 15th, three days ago.  It didn't cause any sort of delays to the project whatsoever, it was just an internal milestone for us, and a case where "we hope it looks as awesome as possible with no significant bugs by that point."

So, no worries.  ;)
