Max Resolution with big black borders?
« on: July 16, 2010, 11:52:21 pm »
Is the game suppose to show like 3 Inch border around the game? it's fine at 1280x720 but don't like it at that resolution.

The art itself for the game is 1280x768, which means that it won't cover any space larger than that. Higher resolutions will show a black area around the game. I don't know if Chris has any interest in supporting stretching in windowed mode, but I don't think you'd like the results if we did support that. If you run in fullscreen mode, the stretching you see there is likely a lot better than what we'd be able to achieve with it in windowed mode.

With art of this type, it's just not something we can support for massive resolutions without either stretching or a black border. Sorry about that. :( Perhaps Chris or Keith will have more insight, though.

Yep, that's pretty much the scoop, unfortunately.  The manual and wiki both also mention this topic, with pretty much that conclusion.  I don't think that having it stretch in windowed mode will be particularly straightforward or that it would look very good, as most of the time when that sort of stretching is in play, it looks pretty bad.  But, I might be able to look at something with setting a multiplier on the orthographic camera, to see how that would look.  Usually it leads to the graphics looking extraordinarily fuzzy, though, so I don't have high hopes -- hence why that is not a feature at the moment.  See the stretch-to-window feature in AI War for example, it looks so horrible that I don't think anyone uses it.  Wish I had better news!
