Graviton puzzle
« on: April 22, 2010, 03:01:57 am »
This is my first puzzle ;D It uses the graviton mode introduced for puzzles in 0.402.

I don't know how hard it is, think it's a bit tricky.

The rules are simple: In one move, jump between the stacks and pop the bubble on top of one of the stacks.

Hope you like it, please give feedback  :D

I'm not totally clear on this puzzle. What do you mean by 'jump between the stacks'? I'm sure there's more to this than I'm getting, since it's a big puzzle and popping the bubble takes just clearing 3 blocks. :P It might be worth making the requirements more strict to meet what you're trying to have the player achieve. It also makes me think that it might be worth it to have blocks that can be rotated, but can't be clicked on.

Edit: Fixed confusing typo

So far, I've been seeing if there's any way to make the two sides interact with each other, but I'm not seeing a way yet. I'm also wondering if there's a way to make all the cyan (aka gray) blocks clear, but I've had no luck with that yet, either. Hmmm.

Edit: Neat, I think I figured out a way to clear all 3 columns of cyan blocks, but can't fully test it with the bubble there. :P Anyway, I'm interested in hearing more about the intent ruleset for this puzzle.

Okay, didn't see that one coming, have to try non intended solutions next time  ;) But then again that’s why testers are great  ;D

Yep, I know what you mean. :) One of my favorite puzzles in the game is Puzzle 3 - 3, but it turned out it used to have an oversight that led to a really trivial solution. I had to lock the top block to make my intended solution the only one. ;)

Awesome, the new version requires a lot more thought. :P Getting to the right side is really tricky. Fun puzzle.

I'm not sure if you're looking to simplify it or not, but if so, you could cut out a lot of the current blocks in it. You might consider part of the puzzle as figuring out what you do and don't need, though. The blues are just extra, though, and don't really make anything particularly easier or harder, I think. *shrugs* :)

Just finished this puzzle myself and I really enjoyed the style.  I'm thinking you could create a series of these with this as like a simple starter level to get a player used to the sort of things they're looking to aim for - I'd certainly download and play it!  The next one could either have an extra bubble, say, or require two very long-chained-between-stacks moves.

You were right the blue blocks could easily be ignored in the previous version. But, now I have uploaded a new version that I believe have eliminated the possibility for such shortcuts ;) The problem on the right hand side can however still, as you said, be seen as figuring out what you need and what you don't.

PLivesey: Glad that you liked the puzzle style ;D

I have tried out your second puzzle, and really liked it :) However, took me in the range of 12 moves or so to complete it.

Attached is a new puzzle loosely following the same style, it may not be that hard , more like a test in combining sun & moon with graviton.
Hope you like this one too :)
