Hi,

In 'Betrayed Hope' I would like to request one option or possibility being a return of the Hydrals as an active race. They would either have a lower technological base due to being a small group of survivors, or in the alternative have a small starting population.

Thematically speaking, the Hydrals are all dead except for you.  THAT said, I think you will be very pleased with some of the features in Betrayed Hope, which get at the main thing that you're after, I suspect.

I saw in the sticky thread what "gamemodes" the expansion will add, can't wait for it.

But I'm sure at some point the Hydral would like to use some kind of a cloning machine, to feel less alone ;D
Hydrals, who would be the strongest of all races when fighting, would slowly replace the robots.
It could serve as the Hydral ultimate "weapon"/building in Betrayal Mode.

Another idea would be a "prequel" DLC: playing before the Hydral homeworld get destroyed.
The natural goal could be to maintain the longest Hydral dominance over the solar system (preventing spacefarings or homeworld destruction), or even trying to create a federation.
When/if homeworld get destroyed, the surviving hydral/player decides which planet he flees on, and then get the choice to either follow the Federation path or the Betrayal path.

You never know!  Right now we're working on Spectral Empire, which is a distant sequel to both AI War and The Last Federation, set far into the future of both.  At some point we will probably explore prequels to both of those games, too.  In fact, I honestly think of Bionic Dues as a sort of semi-prequel to AI War, basically in the period before the human civil wars started and before the AI was really any great shakes to worry about. ;)

Sorry for getting off topic, but I was thinking of an AI War prequel the other day. I like the idea of a game that inevitably ends in defeat (not just probably)  :)

Actually on topic, the cloning idea could be really neat - new Hydrals could be really powerful, but the others races would surely be wary of the race that oppressed them rising from the ashes.

Regarding your idea of Ai war prequel and assured losing the game (a bit dwarf fortress-ish seems to me) :).  You should see project zomboid, that game is pretty much hard-harder-hardest-impossible, as it is the longer you play the more difficult it gets, not 'if' or have a chance of slowing it down, the numbers just keep getting bigger.  Of course that means no matter how good the player, eventually they are overwhelmed.

Anyway,  your idea sounded appropriately AI War-ish (the losing and all, and I wanted to second it.
:)

Well now, that would depend on who you were playing as, wouldn't it?

Having been awakened from months of inactivity by a nomad planet opening wormholes in my computer room, I start browsing the Arcen boards again and then this causes me to spit-take.

AI War and TLF are in the same universe!? I've already had little head scenarios going where Mr. Last Of His Kind bumps into human survivors, though canonically I suppose that wouldn't really be happening.

I would like to see the Hydral race restored, whether by cloning or survivors or whatever, as a possible ending. The Hydrals could be the authors of a new Hydral dictatorship or newly enlightened and join the Federation. As it is a popular option I would like to see the Hydral return added to the regular federation building game.
