Things I would have liked to know
« on: March 13, 2014, 08:38:47 am »
So, after having played a bit, here's a list of things I wished the game would've told me when I started out:

1) How the minimap works (you can't scroll, the box represents your screen, etc.) and what the symbols on it represent
2) The fact that the ammo for weapons which have limited ammo replenishes between battles
3) The fact that random stuff can happen on the solar system map while you're sitting there doing nothing
4) How to deal with things like radiation events
5) Whether it is possible to change my flagship
6) What the funny green circles that appear when you press Z
7) That the WASD controls move you global directions
8) What space junk and ice chunks do (the red flashing thing is kinda alarming. It should be made clear that these things don't damage the ship)
9) I'm not sure if this was mentioned in the first combat how-to box, but the fact that shields recharge

But overall, seems quite interesting and promising :) Keep up the great work, guys!
Arcen in Summary:
thank you so much, RNG
It aims to please!

Or is that "to kill"?  Hmm.

Yeah, I hadnt known the shields recharge either.   Took me some time to actually notice this.

Hmm, it does occur to me though:  Is this fact exploitable? Like, if you take a few hits, just zoom away from everything (best done with Afterburner) and sorta just sit in a blank area until it refills... then jump back in, and repeat.  There's no time limit on these missions after all.... and the lose condition is pretty much just you dying.  As far as I know, anyway.  I'm sure there's lots of mission types I aint seen yet.

As for other things that remain confusing.... mostly just the solar map stuff.  The actual goal of the game, I dont THINK it's explained yet.... and alot of different options you can choose from for each race are very unclear as to just what exactly they do.  Planet inventories and similar things are also very confusing.  I dont understand the known aliens list either, but I've also not messed with it much, though I suspect it's important.

So much neat stuff to do there, and I have no idea what much of it actually does.

I agree with #1 also...although I was able to figure it out it wasn't immediately apparent

As far as the red flashing with space junk...I thought it was doing damage. If not what does it represent?

I agree lots to learn still but enjoying it.

It just means you're in contact with some sort of debris-type object, and your speed is being reduced until you escape it's grasp.

A pretty big thing that I couldn't figure out after my short (2 hours or so) first playthrough (0.803) was how to get the Federation ball rolling.

Right now, the space-capable races are the Andors and Evucks (friendly), Burlusts (sort-of-friendly), Thoraxians (hostile) and the Skylaxians ("starting" race, very hostile). The Burlust interaction option explained quite clearly what was needed to first establish the Federation, but the Andor and Evuck ones didn't say why no other races were eligible for the Federation-founding options and I couldn't seem to figure it out on my own. Didn't really look at the other two.

Another odd thing was the deployable fleetships. They seem to have a tendency to run off and do their own thing, but if that's supposed to be the case why are their weapons tied to mine?

Two more things that would have been nice to know:

1) You don't lose influence with anyone for smuggling spacefaring tech unless you get caught doing it.

2) Touching a pirate freighter lets you board and steal bribe items from it.
