Greetings and a question
« on: April 19, 2014, 03:23:09 pm »
I'm about to buy the game.  I have a question, then an introduction.

I assume purchasing direct from Arcen gets Chris and Co. the biggest cut.  Does that method get me a steam key or just a download?  (Sorry, I've searched for this answer but couldn't find it).  Getting a steam key is not super important to me, my priority is to support the devs, so I'm mainly curious.  I thought I saw somewhere that the Humble store gives Arcen the biggest cut, but I can't imagine that would be true compared to a direct purchase.

Introduction:  I never heard of this game until a couple of days ago, and I've never played an Arcen game before.  I have, though, heard of Chris Park and Arcen thanks to Chris's past appearance on a podcast.  (Can't remember which one, it was either Quarter to Three or Three Moves Ahead).  I was so impressed that I decided to try out the demo for Skyward Collapse.  Wasn't for me.  I looked at AI Wars, and was too intimidated to purchase.  So I moved on.

In the past I've played Distant Worlds, Sins, Drox Operative, GalCiv, etc.  I've always thought the ideal mix for me would be a game that has pausable real time at the strategic level, but turned-based at the tactical level.  Because I'm old and slow.  So imagine my surprise when I found that Arcen had read my space sim wish list!

Thanks Chris et al., looking forward to finally sampling an Arcen game  ;).

Here is post where I asked a somewhat similar question: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php?topic=15268.0

Basically, use the link in the post, and buy it through the humble widget. You will get a steam key, and you can download the game as well. I did the steam key.

Welcome to the forums!

Here is word from Erik, Arcen's PR guy:

Question: Is the Humble Widget link in the store the most direct way to buy the game or do I wait for a Fastspring link to show up? I want as much of my money to reach Arcen!

Humble Widget gives us the biggest cut.

EDIT: Ninja'd ;D

AI War has a fairly steep learning curve, but there's a lot of helpful info out there to get past it. The game also has a ton of difficulty options, so you can turn it down and gradually learn as you work up. It goes all the way from "pretty much impossible to lose" to "if you win, it's a bug." :D

Probably worth checking out if you like this game, particularly as it goes on sale from time to time.
