history of the Solar System
« on: May 03, 2014, 01:04:50 am »
I have been thinking Lately about the supposed history of the Solar System, what with all the wars and Backroom Deals and Combat. Which is all well and good, but taking a page from Reality might make for something interesting. like, agricultural societies gave way, albeit slowly, to Industrial cultures. but there is also art, and cinema and Music and the Artists and celebrities that make it. In a Game you could see references to Marilyn monroe's New Film is plagued by cost overruns and the Star showing up on the Set Drunk or hung over and unable to read her Lines. History Talks about These Things, about the Death of Picasso and the tradgedy of the Lindberg Kidnapping. It's about the sucessful Launch at kittyhawk and the tradgedy of the Shuttle Crash. It covers the News of the Prime Minister's abdication and the Rise to bloody power of a Sudanese Warlord in the civil war Törn countries of the Third World. It is the 239 passengers löst in an Inter Country plane accident. Or the 1200 newly graduated medical doctors in the UK newly deployed to Hospitals all across England. Or any of a thousand good and sad and mundane Things that Happen on any given day in the Real World. Not just wars and backroom political Plots. I mean sure the war stuff and Combat all make for 4X wonderfulness but the small and large sadnesses and Joys that make history interesting and something more than just a grab for power and outsmarting ai opponents. we need Peltian rock and Rollers trashing Hotel Roms on the eve of their Return to meloncholy concert tour. We need Burlust warlords making outrageous demands on capitalist imperial governments. And andoran therapists publishing their Dream Theories. And thoraxian actresses getting caught in compromising situations in Bollywood.
Just my two Cents,  :)

Something that gives the experience of the Game something more than just rote battles and scheming.     A feeling, Even if only Simulated, of something real Happening.  what you said.  yes.   :)

Yeah, I'd like more events too. Civ 4 and GalCiv had some nice once, ranging from international sporting events to diplomatic faux pas (my favourite was the jilted bride event in Civ 4) to religious pilgrimages, etc., etc.

There are already a bunch of events, but they lack flavor text; the news ticker seems like a logical place to put these.
