I just bought the game after watching this video. However, in the video scott has some sort of line showing the movement path the ship is going to take. How can I turn that on? It seems like it should be on by default, and I cant find any option anywhere to turn it on.

Welcome to the forums! In terms of the line not showing up... that's very strange. If you are in movement mode and move your cursor, it should automatically appear.

Yea, It shows up now. I restarted the game, and after that it appeared. Kinda odd.

Wow. That's pretty darn neat. I'd been wondering if some videos of this were going to pop up, didn't expect one from a more popular channel though (since those tend to do alot of mainstream stuffs).
And this is still pretty surreal to me.
Gotta be even more interesting for you guys though. Seeing what kinds of strategies and such different players use and dont use for the complicated solar map stuffs. I'd actually been looking for LPs for exactly that reason (for strategy games in general, really), because I find it very interesting to see tactics in this genre used by other players in strategic games and compare them to my own.
....not to mention the usual laughing at any hilarious fail moments that may occur. Not that I dont have plenty myself in games like these. "Okay, the Thoraxians seem to be under control, so now I'll- OMG THE ANDORS JUST BLINKED OUT OF EXISTENCE". Like that :p

Sadly I've gotten a bit used to it over the last 5 years, but I still have moments where the sheer surreality of it all hits me. I really miss having that feeling more, but I guess you get used to anything.
I love people doing videos, but honestly my favorite thing of all is you guys on the forums coming in and sharing what you're up to in the games, and the back-and-forth that results. I'd feel like I've lost an arm or worse trying to make games without this community. Not that everyone here needs to stay out of guilt or something (people have lives too, and I understand that!), but the collective and the individuals are something that I do cherish. There are some old forum names that I see that make me kind of sad because I remember the folks and miss them, but they've moved on. Which is okay though, because there are all these newer names that have become really familiar over the last years, months, and weeks. At first it always scared me when someone disappeared from the community, like things were going to fall down after that point, but awesome new people have always kept showing up. And sometimes old faces return, too.
Anyway, it's that sense of community and working toward a common goal (a better game) that I really love the most. Reviewers and LPers come and go for the most part, and seeing what they do is 100% entertaining. But they aren't usually the ones who sink in a hundred hours or more, etc. I honestly value all of it a great deal, even if I do take it for granted more than I should.

STILL HERE! Albeit a fair bit more lurky than I used to be. Real life has kinda caught up with me and other games are keeping me busy. But Arcen is kinda like a second home. Will probably never leave it.
That said: I discovered Scott Manley just a week ago because of him playing Xenonauts. He's actually quite funny. I do enjoy his content and I can see why he's popular. Compared to say...Smosh and PewDiePie. I cannot fathom WHY they have such following.

Smosh are the one that made a gaming channel because it was popular, or something. Or that might be some other unfathomably popular youtube-person, I don't really keep track of them.

It threw me for a bit when you changed your forum account name, but then I recognized you after a bit. Near as I can tell you are Echo35, right? My wife and I played part of a round of Left 4 Dead 1 with you when we basically had no idea what we were doing yet. ;)

This video by Scott Manley actually brought me back to TLF. I had played it back in its early stages and got turned off by the rather terrible combat and the information overload that is so common out of Arcen titles, along with Real Life getting in the way.
But I saw this video (as I watch him regularly) and was instantly drawn to fire the game up again. Turn based bullet hell? Sign me up! I am one of the resident Touhou fans here after all.
So, ensign when the clock hit one am last night and I still couldn't sleep I got up and began the game.
Wow was it awesome. And one of the key things that I find even better than the massively improved combat is the tutorial. I knew the Arcen information overload was a problem but did not know how to fix it. You figured it out. The gradual reveal of information and options is exactly what I needed to understand things.
As I said on Twitter, this game makes me want to keep playing just a few more minutes more than any Civilization game ever did. It wasn't until four am that I finally put the game down and went to sleep. :)
I only regret that I got my copy of TLF free because I was in the beta. That's easy to fix though. I'll just buy it for a friend... or three. ;)

Thanks man! So glad that you're into it more now -- it was a long and grueling beta for sure, and there was a ton that changed during it. And then yet more since 2.0, as well. :)

Whoa, I'm not the only one here that's into that sort then! Though I personally prefer Cave's stuff and similar styled shmups over Touhou, but all of it is pretty good, really.... Cave's design style though is what influenced the patterns of the new ships in the expansion, particularly the Obscura (and the Burlust's new warlord fight, which I think is in the base game without the expansion now).
Though I used more colors for the patterns than what Cave's usual is... they tend to just drown the screen in purple or something like that and then say it's colorful enough.
