Races Defend One Another?
« on: May 01, 2014, 03:13:23 pm »
I don't know if this has been addressed already and is in line for a later fix, or anything like that, but while I adore this game and most everything in it, something I've found myself wishing I had in my repertoire of influential decisions is to petition another race to defend an ally from attack. As far as I know, the closest thing to that Andor's ability to broker peace between warring factions, which isn't really the same thing and is neutered if they're involved in the conflict at all.

It makes a lot of sense, and I was a bit surprised that races - even those in the Federation / Anti-Federation - don't generally move to help each other when one is being invaded and in severe trouble. This leaves the player to defend the planet all by themselves, which depending on the size of the attacking fleet and the defenses of the attacked race isn't always possible.

I figure such a thing would be more expensive than the average military petition - especially if said races aren't in the Federation together or don't really know each other. It might even increase relations between them if successful.

Again, apologies if this has been addressed already, but it's more or less the one big thing I kept thinking of while playing.

Nope. Not a feature currently. Wish it was.

Yeah, I'd love something like that. Also non-aggression pacts, and defensive pacts and alliances beyond the federation would be nice as well.

It's a pretty strange Federation that doesn't look after its members.

If someone I hated and who was also much weaker than me starting beating up my crippled friend, I would definitely help.

Good one.

But yeah, it'd be nice to be able to get a race to help out its long-term trade partner (for example). Those acutians are still some aggressive mofos.

Seriously, in all observer games I have done, Acutians and Skylaxians always dominate.

The Burlust are lorewise super scary and whatnot, and yeah maybe their troops are, but my burlust cant build a ship if I am not standing behind them.
That said, its pretty easy to get on their good side for me, they always love me. Unlike miss 'Mood Swings - I want chocolate ice cream, not a federation' Queen.

Usually for me it's evucks and skylaxians, but yeah, the skylaxians are kindof universally dominant. The burlust and the Thoraxians don't matter at all past the first 10 years because they get so out-teched.

The Skylaxians and their huge resource are pretty good at making it to the top of the heap, as well as the Evucks, what with their "your research has become our research by way of our actions". The Thoraxians have got a serious buff, and now probably top the Acutians, but the Burlusts are still lacking. The Peltians and Boarines never seem to go very far very often.
Furthermore, it is my opinion that Hari must be destroyed.

Which is kindof intended. I'd be nice if the boarine kept up with tech at least a little. Infact a research boost across the board except for the skylaxians/evucks would be nice imo.

Interestingly, I've been seeing Burlusts and Boarines and Skylaxians as the dominant force in my observer games lately.  Huh.

In general when one alliance member gets attacked, all the others will respond, but there does seem to be some issue there that is preventing it from working totally right.

The Burlust? Really? Not a single game I have seen has showed them to build ships faster than one like every three months, even though I always help them, gift them all tech and all. If I dont assist armada building, they generally act as my battlefront. The enemy races siege their world to hell and back, the burlust hold them off in the ground combat, and meanwhile I use nukes over the enemy worlds as I screw them over with the other races.

Let alone observer games, which are very amusing. Once the Acutians took control of 7/8 planets, and then the Skylaxians suddenly started pushing back, and I only left when there were two acutian worlds left because the Skylaxians simply refused to invade.
In another, the Peltians took out the Thoraxians early on. I fully agreed with the ship's comment. LOL.

Also, is there ANY use to holding control of the Hydral world remains? I see races religiously battling for it when there are enemy planets just ripe for conquest with minuscule populations.

Yeah it's kindof an annoying bug that they fight to infinity on the homeworld remnants/cracked worlds. Basically what keeps happening is that, say it starts on equal footing: race x sends extra ships, grinds down race z's ships, so race z sends ships, and it doesn't matter whether or not race z ground down the other side's ships, just as long as race z has enough ships not to be ground down to nothing race x will keep sending ships. It kinda sucks because it takes up the AI's brain on only that, and they don't go to any other planets.

I don't know if this has been fixed recently, but it was a problem in 1.005-6?
