Races and Alignment
« on: May 18, 2014, 05:55:56 pm »
An oldie but goodie, slightly edited, but stolen from here.

Skylaxians: Neutral Good - Tries to improve the well-being of all in the system but willing to be flexible

Peltians: Chaotic Good - Furry little creatures that just want to love

Andor: Lawful Good - Unwilling to break their codes and laws

Boarines: Lawful Neutral - Stick to themselves and their territory

Evucks: Chaotic Neutral - Amorally search for tech

Thoraxians: Chaotic Evil - Just want to invade everything

Burlusts: Lawful Evil - Mostly honorable warrior clans

Acutians: Neutral Evil - Will do anything for best profits

Player: True Neutral

Yes, this seems perfect.

More explanation, here.

I'd hardly put the burlusts at lawful evil, or the boarines at lawful good. The boarines are neutral in both the 'switzerland' sense and the moral functioning sense, I never saw them as 'lawful' or orderly. If anything, the in-fighting they have proves this. And the burlusts, well, they're very chaotic, and considering you literally move and control them with blackmail and their own corruption, I wouldn't call them lawful/honorable.

Well, I think they're supposed to be evil: "For me, these guys come in at #2 on the list of villainous races in the solar system." [link]

As for 'lawful,' yes, "these guys work entirely on bribes and blackmail." But they're consistent within that system, and that's utterly predictable: there's simply no other way to work with them. The internal fighting and rising to the top is according to rules, a kind of hierarchy. It's sort of a warrior code. Contrast this with the random mood swings of the Thoraxian Queens.

But the blackmail/bribes imply they break the rules enough to be run by breaking the rules, therefore, they are aren't lawful. You can find order in any 'chaotic' system, but if the system is pushed and run/regulated by chaos, it doesn't make them lawful again.
