Questions From Noobs
« on: April 18, 2014, 10:54:48 am »
I've got an hour into the game so far and am loving it.  Clearly there's a lot more depth to the strategic layer than was apparent from the videos already posted.  I was a little concerned about the strategic portion being real-time, but having auto-pause when opening a menu makes everything all right.

One thing I can't figure out is how to delete or change a move in combat after plotting it.  Everything I try just seems to execute the original move.

Welcome!

Hitting the escape key a bunch of times should cancel your moves.

Hello,

I am  23 years into the game and having issues with tens of thousands of ships appearing above planets in a piratical exodus. Not sure what to do about them. Is this WAD?

Thanks.

Never seen that happen. You might want to post a save game. :)

Indeed.

Got the pirate fleets cleared up with the insane fleets of my federation. The piratical exodus' were from a Boarine world with -1000 medical and still growing population. So it is just endless spam. My main issue right now is I cant move forward. All planets but that one Boarine one are in my federation. And some how everyone loves each other. It also costs me 60k+ credits to get them to join and its constantly going up. I am open to any suggestions on how either kill this stupid world or get it to join.

Thanks.

Here is my save as well.

With how few races you have left, your options are pretty limited. The Skylaxians like them too much to declare war, but would probably win if they did (particularily if you help). So one way to go is to sabotage relations between them. Seems like the Andors already don't like them, but

Alternately, grind credits and then go to the Skylaxians and use them to get the Boarines to join. That currently costs 45k credit, which is a lot. But I did some research dispatches and it dropped to 30k after a while. I also changed the medical trend for the Boarines and after a while it stopped the exodus.

Getting enough credits to work with the Skylaxians seems like your best bet to me, given what's left on the board.

I have 18 Acutian pilot hostages. The black market will take them, but that seems inadvisable given who my friends are. How do I get the Acutians to take these guys back? Do I need to bring relations back to neutral or something?

You can give those pilots back on the politics screen for free I believe. It will increase your influence with them

Silly question: why would I want to do that? I'm doing everything I can to be a scourge to those suckers, and I have my boot pretty squarely on their neck at the moment. Of course I've only been playing the game for maybe an hour, so there's a lot I still don't know.
Furthermore, it is my opinion that Hari must be destroyed.

If you're basically in a definitely hostile relationship with a given race, and dont intend on trying to undo that, then there definitely isnt any real point to taking the pilots back to them.

You'd be better off selling them to the black market for credit.  Or if you dont want to do that, simply hold onto them for the time being.

Like the other Arcen games, is the universe somewhat randomized each play though or is this whole thing on a much more scripted path/storyline?

Loving the game so far.  Is there a way to change the appearance of the player's flagship or plans to make that possible?  At least the color lol, not liking the green motif.  8)

Is there a good way to overcome the Influence penalty for doing so? Because Influence gains right now are pathetically low, in my experience, to the point where the credits you gain will never be worth it.

The races are the same, but the starting planet conditions and order of spacefaring changes each game. That changes who gets powerful without your influence, so the game plays out differently.
