Put Down That Match - How to stop Evucks from igniting Gas Giant?

Does anyone know how you stop the Evucks from igniting their planet after the countdown has started (for the Put Down That Match achievement)? I've successfully managed to get them to start the countdown.

However, if I take over their planet (using one of my Federation races), even though the countdown stops I don't get the achievement. Blowing up the planet with a planetcracker also doesn't give me the achievement.

Please help!

I've never actually gotten this one myself, but what I think you have to do is meet the following:
1. Countdown starts and then is stopped
2. Evuck Gas Giant is still intact
3. Evucks are still in control of Gas Giant

So, get them to join the Federation?  That the only way?

I was pretty sure the only way to get the achievement was to make sure the Evuks don't own a gas giant.  That is: while there are other ways to stop the count down, none of them trigger the achievement.
