Chris, Keith -- GOG.com updater still boofed.
« on: April 25, 2014, 05:59:21 pm »
As of 1639 CDT, GOG is still only offering the 1.000 version for download.  Neither the in-game updater nor the stand alone Arcen updater are working.  Both result in an uninstall option (which works extremely well, although it was kind enough to ask if I wanted to retain my saves before it uninstalled).

I checked the GOG community and saw the message Keith posted about manually updating, went to the URL and DLed the four zip files (TLF_1001.zip through TLF_1004.zip).  Then, following the info in the Arcen message "updating game on OSX 10.9.2", I copied the zipped files (still zipped) into the RuntimeData/updates folder.

I then manually ran the ArcenUpdater.exe from the UDA folder.  Result is "TLF_1001 is not a valid numbered version file!" (as well as updates 2, 3, and 4.

Now what?  I'd really like to be able to update this game.  If I'd known it was going to be this difficult, I would have waited a few extra hours and purchased through steam.  Extremely frustrated at this point.

  • I'm probably joking.

I have the GOG Windows version and it works just fine.
My Proccess
  • Download the original 1.0.
  • Launch the game.
  • Tab'ed out to give permissions to run and unsandbox it from the security software.
  • Quit & Restart to get the game out of the sandbox.
  • Run the autoupdater at the bottom of the launch screen.
  • It updates.
  • I give it permissions from security software and good to go.
  • I update with the new patches the same way.
Try that perhaps?

For the zip files, you have to change the name to just include the numbers, like 1001.zip instead of TLF_1001.zip.

I'm not sure why they have not updated the version to 1.004, I sent them the files days ago and just assumed they had.  I will ping them about it, thank you for letting me know.

Looks as if my only choice is to wait for GOG to eventually update their files and hope the in-game/stand alone updater works from that version.

Changed the file names to 1001.zip, etc.  Moved the files (still zipped) into the runtime folder, ran ArcenUpdater.exe from inside the UDA folder, and, yet again, the next screen is the dreaded "Are you sure you want to completely remove The Last Federation and all of its components?"  I end up at the same "remove game" screen if I try starting the update process within the game.

Both lastfederation.exe and arcenupdater.exe have been granted exceptions for the my anti-virus software and my windows firewall.

Yeah, they added that, apparently -- I absolutely coded nothing of that sort,  There is no "Are you sure you want to completely remove The Last Federation and all of its components?" anywhere in anything I ever coded, so they replaced some of my stuff with their own.

Here is what should really be in the UDA folder (you can delete whatever they put in there): http://www.arcengames.com/share/UDA.zip  That zip file has the versions for all three operating systems, but you will have to run "chmod a+x myfile" on either the .app file or the .x86 file if you are on OSX or linux respectively.  Sounds like you are on windows, though, so nothing of that sort required.

Also, please check your PM inbox, I sent you a note a bit ago.
