Difference betwee squadron / flotilla / armada?

Hey, can someone explain what are these squadrons flotilias and armadas the game refers to in the mission completed screen?

Armadas are composed by flotilla. Every flotilla contains one o more flagship. Every flagship can release several squadrons

Thanks. In this case Armada/Flotilla distinction appears strange to me. We have all stats and graphs on both. Why this distinctions is important than? Why don't we just stat it all up in number of individual ships, or (tens ot hundreds of individual ships)? That would be more clear, no?
