I recently obtained some internal documents detailing what happened with the release date.  Someone (probably the Red Bull delivery guy) left the doors to the dev cage ajar, and the devs escaped.  x4000 saw natural sunlight and ran back to his hole in terror, signalling six more weeks of Beta!
