First impressions
« on: April 08, 2014, 07:58:16 pm »
Hey there. Got invited to the beta recently and wanted to give you folks my first impressions.

It took some time to get used to the combat in the tutorial. There seems to be a lot happening on the screen at once. It looks (and somewhat feels) like a bullet-hell game, but you have as much time as you want to decide the absolute best course of action. I'm worried that this can make combat too simple.

The solar map has a lot of information on it and it's not immediately clear how to perform the actions that the tutorial suggested. Randomly clicked on a planet and noticed the local actions changed.

First section of combat outside of the tutorial (smuggling space-faring tech) had a lot of new stuff going on. I wasn't able to complete it on normal difficulty without "cheesing" it, just blitzing through all the things that were defending the drop zone. It seemed like there was far too much defence to punch through.

Completing the first section of combat lead to a LOT of new information. I have no clue where to start after opening the friendly acts window for the Evucks.

Yeah, after a break and coming back the solar map is still really daunting for a new player. Just going to try doing random things. Helped the Evucks raid a pirate convoy for loot. The combat was exceedingly easy, especially as compared to the first space-faring tech smuggle mission. It feels like there's nothing pointing you in the right direction here. There's lots of choices and things to do, but after I smuggled space-faring tech a few times I just had no idea what to do next. For the next hour or so I just arbitrarily picked friendly missions to do for a few races.

There's a lot to like here; it's certainly a unique concept. As of right now I feel combat is somewhat too simple/easy (Note: haven't cranked up the settings yet. Will try that next) and the simulation/solar map is directionless. Maybe the solar map tutorial should be a few missions, three or four, that have you pick a race you'd like to help out and give you instructions on what to do and clarification about why you'd want to do them.

It has a lot of potential, though. Keep up the good work!
