In what sense suiciding?  It really depends on which AI routine you are using, too, and what sort of ships you give it.

Also in the current version, there are a couple of ships which just wreck everything, and some other ships which can't fire far enough to hit anything.  There are several things that are a mess there, sorry about that.


After creating one squadron, the enemy flagship sends it directly at me. By the time it gets to me, I already have my squadron + flagship. The enemy creates another squadron and does the same thing. Does the same thing five times in a row, and I don't lose a single unit.

That is the correct behavior for only one of the types, which is the hyper-aggressive one.  It should not do that on most AI styles.  Not remotely that.  Something may simply be wrong.
