Hello. Problem is basically like in the title - downloaded the game as part of the Humble Monthly and it won't run. Window opens and remains black until it's quit. One thing of note - looking in the Unity log (~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log) it seems that this is the steam version of the game? And it keeps trying and failing to find steam so it won't run?

The problem is actually the AppTranslocation part of gatekeeper. If you take a look over here, this is another note on how to work around it: https://forums.arcengames.com/ai-war-classic-technical-support/mac-freezes-on-load-up-screen/msg218227/#msg218227

But what I'd first try is this bit I'll copy-paste:

Basically, the problem here is GateKeeper on OSX, and a feature called "GateKeeper Path Randomization" in particular. GateKeeper is doing such a "great" job at this that it actually completely prevents the application from finding itself or any of its files, and from writing any direct logs to disk, too.

Apparently there may be a super simple fix to this, though! If, through Finder, you copy the folder for AI War to any other location other than Downloads or Applications, then it may just start working. This particular feature of GateKeeper is apparently triggered in the new versions of OSX specifically when an application is downloaded from a web browser and then uncompressed, and then possibly dragged to the Applications folder or possibly just run from its current location. Applications being downloaded through Steam or the Mac App Store don't have this issue.

Heh. I actually just came from that thread that you're copy/pasting from. First of all, after reading that I disabled Gatekeeper via the command line, so I don't think that's the issue. Just to be sure I copied the app into my home directory (~/username/TheLastFederation/LastFederation.app) and tried running it again - here's the log it produced.

Ah, gotcha. Well, I can 100% guarantee, no questions, that this is a gatekeeper app translocation issue. This line:

/private/var/folders/ss/_ykx_pwn3mb6rkck1jfmkdd00000gn/T/AppTranslocation/CE894E8D-07CF-4EB3-AABD-2DF8D9E760AE/d/LastFederation.app/

Should read:

~/username/TheLastFederation/LastFederation.app/

And there are lines like that all in your log. I think that putting it directly in ~/username/ may not work. You might want to try ~/SomeFolder/TheLastFederation/ or ~/username/SomeFolder/TheLastFederation/

It's all voodoo, I'm not really sure why they did this. I'm not into conspiracy theories, and I love my iPhone and iPads, but darned if they aren't making me paranoid with this change on OSX.
