For those who use AVAST or similar, and had it killing TLF, how did you fix it?

Use Comodo Internet Security. Every computer should have antivirus, firewall and HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention System (aka Zero Day protection)).

The weakest link of internet security is the user himself.
Also. Most "Anti" products are garbage. There are really only a couple of "Anti" products worth using.

Nothing stops people from being idiots.
I've tested Comodo Internet Security (and some other internet security products/antiviruses) on a virtual computer and when used correctly (you have to know how to answer it's questions) it blocks pretty much everything. Nothing got trough but of course something still could get trough.

EDIT: Comodo Internet Security can sandbox safe programs the first time you launch them. You can just disable the sandbox or click don't sandbox this program again. Even if the sandbox is disabled the HIPS will still protect from zero day threats.

And i've cleaned quit a few badly infected systems that were "protected" by MSE so I wouldn't trust it anymore, to say nothing about the fact that I would have a hard time trusting MS with products in general.

Had the same problems recurring with trying to run the beta 1.006 version. After playing around with it for an hour, I ended up ditching Avast altogether. Now the game works perfectly.

The worst part is that Avast was not even notifying me that it was killing the program... 

Well, now I need to find another antivirus.

What do you mean by sales pitch? I was talking about securing a computer and used CIS as an example because it's a good alternative for AVAST antivirus. In fact it's much better. It's not just  my opinion and Comodo didn't pay me to say this. It's a fact. In other words I was trying to help people - who stopped using AVAST because of this - to protect their computers. I'd not want anyone to use AVG. No one (ok someone) deserves that.

Just in case you wonder where did I get this "fact" from and want to argue about it: take 2 computers and install AVAST on the other one and CIS on the other one. Tweak the setting on both programs for maximum security and then try to infect the computers with malware. See which one does better.
