Title: Favourite Race?
Post by: Zebeast46 on December 05, 2014, 03:19:48 pm
What is your favourite race in terms of mechanics and appearance? My favourite race is the Peltians and my second favourite is the boarines, although the boarines political stuff nedds to be tweaked, like perhaps put in a feature when the boarines are in a federation they can declare war on any race in a hostile alliance.

Is it bad my "favorite" race is the one I fear most?

I fear Acutians because they can grow fleets faster then I can wreck them. I fear Thorxians because if they get a beachhead my influence stops.

I like Burlusts because BOW TO MY INFLUENCE OR I WILL KILL YOU TILL YOU DO.

...I am very, very bad at TLF.

I'm stuck between Evucks and Thoraxians, but I'm not sure why.
Every recent game I try to get them to like me and themselves, and so far they've always wound up at war with each other.

Skylaxians and Burlusts.
The Skylaxians because of their ability to pull other races into the Federation once it's been formed.
The Burlusts because of their "government".

The reason why I like boarines is because of rage momentum an I like peltians because I loge their ships and their form of government

I like the Acutians, cuz Planetcrackers. They are a nice easy way to fix the Thoraxian issues I may encounter. "Oh, you want to make a beachhead? NOPE!" Poof. The costs totally justify the means.

I tend to think of all the NPC races as petulant children that must be herded and/or disciplined.

Even though I haven't played the expansion yet, the Obscura are my favorite race because with them, you know where you stand. I'm also looking forward to managing the Hydral-built robots 'cause they're definitely not going to give me any lip.

The Americans Acutions. Because nothing makes genocide easier than simply destroying the rest of the solar system. Plus capitalism. 'Merica anyone?

Peltians and Andors are hard not to love, but Skylaxians are at the core of my plans, since they're very easy to work with. Basically free 2x shipbuilding, will attack anyone you want and generally give the player an easy time with actions regardless of the senate. Maybe too easy.

As far as design goes, probably Thoraxians. Yeah, I know they're just your bog-standard, generic, hive-minded insect race 101. But the mood swings of the queens just make them FUN. In the Dwarf Fortress way.

As far as the race I like the most it's without doubt Skylaxians. I've always been a science geek when I play 4x and pump way more resources into science than I should and the Skylaxians are smart AND friendly. Can't go wrong with that.

How to make a long thread in no time?
Step 1: Ask a question about taste.

Evucks! Technology + Evilness, what else?

Burlurst. I almost always have to plan around them, whereas the Andor and Skylaxians just do as I tell them. I like dealing with the latter better, but the Burlurst always throw a wrench in my games.

acutions I find their government the most interesting.
