Original post: http://christophermpark.blogspot.com/2014/03/extended-gameplay-video-for-last.html

The Last Federation is a really unique game in that it is a strategy/tactics game set inside a simulation game.  Check out its game page for details, or swing by the forums for the game.  This is Arcen's largest title ever, and we're really excited to share it with folks.

Alpha Information! Private alpha testing with players is currently in progress, and we will be adding more players throughout the coming weeks leading up to release.  If you're interested in signing up, please see this forum post.

Earlier this week I wrote about the upcoming major changes to combat, and promised that a video would follow soon to show it to you in action.  Well, here you are!  And for good measure, there is also the first footage of the solar map in here -- I didn't mean for this video to run for an hour, but so it goes.  There was a lot to show!

There are also a lot of new screenshots for you!

Until next time!

Now we know why today's patch was so light.  Chris spent most of this afternoon playing the game  ;)

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Is there a reason the video won't show? Maybe it just takes time to load?

p.s.  looks like the link in the underlined text is the link to the video. Clicking on the arrow itself though doesn't bring it up. Or maybe it is just something on my machine?

This was a project for the evening actually, but most of the afternoon was on sound effects and then the page for the game, etc. Really had to get serious with the marketing ball rolling now that we have enough that is cleaned up to show.

The video was still processing but is good to view now, Teal!

certainly looks like 'playing the game' payed off tons!  Really nice looking video and new webpage for TLF.  :)  Way cool!!

p.s. Cinth, your humor didn't go awry at all, it looks really nice though, don'tcha think?  :)

The intro does for sure.  I had several hours of play earlier today, kinda just lurking around for now.

I was poking at what Chris said in the .805 thread about that update being light.  The point of themy post wasn't to actually be right about what he was working on.  Being right about it (to an extent) kinda killed the humor in it.

Man, this looks super polished.  Graphics haven't always been Arcen's strong suit, but this looks great. Gameplay wise, it seems quite complex, but what you were doing seemed pretty clear. The UI looks good for conveying info you'll need.

Music's great, as usual. From what I've heard, It might be my favorite so far, maybe, second to Ancient Shadows.
I can already tell this is going to be a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

Wow, I'm not even 10 minutes into the video yet, and all I can say is that you've made the right choice for your combat system. This looks MUCH more fun and far less esoteric than the last combat build I saw, and I think that giving as much direct control to the player as you've given them now has done nothing but good for the game.

Not gonna lie, now you've REALLY got me waiting for April. Heh. Maybe I'll get lucky and you'll release this on my birthday. ;3

Hey, where did the ex-Hydral planet go? :P  You smacked a moon into it, but the remaining planetary core must be great for mining all of the different rare metrials.

I actually kinda expected that the first race would actually hold both its home planet and the Hydral ex-homeworld to give you a tougher challenge off the bat.

Awesome, thanks!  Blue and Cath did an amazing job, and part of the delay in my showing off more of the solar map earlier was in making sure to get all the interfaces reasonably polished.  Everything certainly isn't done yet, but it's getting along well. :)

It's my favorite one yet, I think.  I don't really have a fully favorite soundtrack, although I really love a ton of stuff from the Skyward Collapse and Valley 2 soundtracks in particular.

Awesome!  Very glad to hear that this seems to be the opinion across the board in terms of people commenting here.  So far.  The shift to something more direct has obviously elicited a thread of people worried about that, but it doesn't seem to be from their own personal feelings and more worries about others.  In the main.  Anyway, I'm still working on the text-based combat anyhow, and really looking forward to that.

Haha, good point on there still being some smoldering remains there.  That would actually be a pretty cool idea!

This looks fantastic. This is exactly the stuff I wanted to see.

A few questions:

If I'm understanding things correctly, is BP pretty much your currency for doing all actions, and each race's attitude toward you is essentially a gate on which actions are allowed? Does a races attitude toward you have other effects as well, such as BP costs for actions being variable based on the attitude?

Is it possible to toggle the combat mini map to a IFF mode to more easily distinguish the bad guys from the good guys in a multi-sided combat?

Can you put in a battle clock? Saying 120 seconds to withdraw is kinda ambiguous when it's really based on game time and not real time.

So there was an action to steal some Cesium. What exactly does that do? Will there be anything like a game encyclopedia which spells out what different items and actions do?
