Invasion sounds almost like what the Thoraxians seem to be set up to be, most of the time.  Only instead of being almost prohibitively hard to get into the federation (and coming with a malus if you do get them in), it's actually impossible.

@DrFranknfurter: The betas will be something that we announce here on the forums and on our social media, and they will be basically a system where you can preorder them from our site and get immediate access to the beta, as well as then getting the full version when it comes out.  The one for this game will be inside of 2 weeks, hopefully next week but that depends on how my testing goes and what all I keep needing to do to get that fixed up to where I'm ready to start showing it around.  For AI War, most likely the beta there will start in the second week of July, we'll see.

@TheDarkMaster: Yep, in a lot of respects these are kind of like a more extreme version of the Thoraxians, although these guys also have some other oddities up their sleeves in terms of showing up uninvited during unrelated battles and some other things along those lines.  If the Thoraxians are the Buggers from Ender's Game crossed with the aliens from Alien, then the Obscura are kind of a cross between the Borg from Star Trek, and... something I can't think of off of the top of my head.  Some kind of amalgamation of some of the stuff from Joe Haldeman, but nothing too specific.

Sweet!  This is exactly the sort of thing I get excited about.  It's like getting two whole new games!

Huh, so something I just thought up...

I was earlier wondering why Skylaxian's secret ultimate rarely(seriously, I've never seen them after those two games where I had option to build them for peltians and acutians) seen weapon is anti robot race weapon... I mean, androns are good guys and acutians are only other robot race. Then I just now realized that in betrayal mode you control race of robots...

Was that actually planned by you guys? ._.; Well, dumb question since now it makes much more sense why "honorable good guy" race has anti robot ultimate weapon as an option xP

is it the robots (Acutians) specifically, or just the first race the hydral picks?

The first race, no matter what it is, is robotified by the Hydral.
Furthermore, it is my opinion that Hari must be destroyed.

Hmmmm....
seems it would be easier to lock in one of the robot races if that is the case.
So, ... Robotified Thoraxians?  Or Burlusts?  Hmmmm....  I'm not sure i am really crazy about that.
Just a personal opinion though.

I don't know where you got the idea that the player couldn't select Acutian or Andor as their starting race in the new mode.
Furthermore, it is my opinion that Hari must be destroyed.

perhaps i am misunderstanding then. The blurb said the first race chosen would be killed and the Hydral would take over, and would have a robot race to back them up. I assumed that meant killing the leadership and taking over the race?

If that were true then why not have them chose the Thoraxians first, like we can now, instead of the default Acutians when we press quick play?  If we did in fact chose the Thoraxians, or the Burlusts, or the Peltians or the Boarines, or any of the others, then our race attributes would be the same as the original race, which is cool. I mean can you imagine trying to win with the Peltians? Trying everything we could to increase our rage meter?

Anyway, when you said that whatever race we choose become robotified i was rather disappointed, i mean, why? Why do we have to throw that in there? If i wanted robots i would choose the Andors or the Acutians as you said. But what if i wanted someone else? Like say we did choose the Andors... one of the limits on the Andors at the moment is they do not bomb or invade.

</Quote>  "The attacker tooltips that mention bombardment and ground combat now also mention when an attacker is deliberately refraining from those actions (Skylaxians and Andors don't bomb, and Andors don't invade). Also uses an alternate string for Peltian invader "ground combat".  </Quote>

If that is true, then using the Andors as a race is going to be very challenging, but then again, maybe it is meant to be. Anyway, The other races all present their own quirks and it seems the 'power' races, the Burlusts and the Skylaxians or the Thoraxians might be a little to easy to use, unless there is some way to handicap them that i am unaware of.

Anyway, i thought you said the race would be robotified and i was saying that i was not really keen on that idea, why not use the races just as they are? If we chose a robot race then fine, that would give us their benefits, probably easier to build up a massive army with robots. But then again, it would be cool, if there were some requirement for some mineral or resource that would be necessary to build the robots, so it wasn't like just build them as long as we want. Anyway, all of this is just off the top of my head reactions and i haven't thought things through probably well enough and i am beginning to ramble a bit. So will say by for now, and that maybe i misunderstood what you said? Or not?

I think I have to point out that thing he said was that first race is killed by hydral and replaced with robot minions. And robot minions takes traits from the first race.

Just to point out that he never actually said they turn first race members into robots :P

Well.... i just re-read through Chris's comments and all that and it seems i was way off, no matter what i prefer it seems that the race is 'completely killed' and the hydral has a population of robotic citizens to rule.  Hmmm....  which i still am guessing means that if i chose the Acutians that i am locked into how the Acutian's behaved? Which is ok, but does it mean that if i have robots that the Acutian robots are now able to bomb and invade?

I am harping and i apologize, but it would be way cool if we had their limitations and faults as well as their strengths. Meaning if i couldn't bomb or invade i would have to figure something else out.  :)  It seems maybe harder, but it also seems way more satisfying and cooler.  :)

Anyway, enough of that.
Thanks!

Update on the schedule: For the TLF expansion, that's going to be very late July or early August when we start the beta for that. Aiming for a September 2.0. That schedule has been pushed back so that I could work on the Linux ports and our site and so on, since we have some breathing room right now.  There are going to be a few more goodies packed into TLF 2.0 than I originally planned, too, so that's a bonus for you for your patience. ;)

Hmm... I've given quite a few hints already, most of what jumps first to mind are repeats. ;)
