: Are updates frozen?
: pakoito February 20, 2015, 04:46:36 PM
I'm asking this as a positive question, because I've been delaying playing the game since release due to the game-changing patches that kept coming and I couldn't possibly keep up with.

I'm seeing no updates in 3 months, no expansion announced and everyone seems to be focused on Stars Beyond Reach, which is awesome too.

I doubt there will be any fresh updates until SBR is released.  Once SBR is out, there will likely be more.

I think it is safe to say that they are not patching it until SBR however, after SBR is done I think we can expect another expansion {TLF actually did better than ai war in the first few weeks I think} and more patches, but no any changes that are too drastic I think.

Even by Arcen standards, things seem slow (but I'm sure they are not). An expansion will come...eventually, although I will be the first to admit the best time to make it has past.

I fired up the game just yesterday. It remains an incredibly interesting title. Without modding capabilities, it does shorten the shelflife.

That being said, I can't see myself uninstalling this game anytime soon. It may have even overtaken Tidalis for second place on my Arcen games list.

I know it is fun. I'm not doubting it. I'm saying, as you said, the game keeps your attention for a limitted time span because of the lack of mods. Generally I think it is best to release an expansion while the game is still on your radar. I can only juggle so many games at a time mentally and I know others can as well. Its just like AI wars. I love it, and bought the last expansion but I haven't actually played it, as bad as that sounds.

If ANOTHER expansion was released too soon, when the first expansion hasnt been out all that long, it'd only cause trouble; people so easily get the perception that a game/expansion/DLC is being "rushed" when there's not enough time between them, and that usually has nothing but negative effects.

It's been awhile since I've had a full go at it myself, but then I got kinda burned out from designing, working on and endlessly testing the attack patterns and balance for the Obscura and new smaller ships over and over and over and over and over.   I never really found that the actual gameplay (either for the solar map or the combat) ever got uninteresting, but I do think it needs more options.  That's one of the things that keeps AI War so fresh, is there's about a bazillion different things you can change, making each game very different from the last, even if you only have the base game installed and none of the expansions.

Was there any news about how well Betrayed Hope had done, and whether it was enough to justify another expansion?
It looked like it was doing ok just after release anyway. (http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,16561.msg182867.html#msg182867)

Hm, there might have been, I dont recall.  I *think* I remember Chris saying something about that, but.... ahh, my memory is really terrible.

To me, it looked like the expansion definitely did well enough, but then I can also be kinda biased when dealing with games I really like.

I'm hoping for more expansions as well though.  I can definitely think up a "wish list" for that game, there's all sorts of neat things that could be added to it.

I got the 'it's doing ok' impression too, but that might've just been because TLF had sold so well. So no trusting my own judgement here, but I live in hope.

The upcoming releases bar from the main page has vanished  :(

This isn't at all unusual.  They are currently working on SBR so it is certainly understandable that other titles are just seeing bug fix releases.  There is also Airship Eternal (shump) coming down the pipe.  Patience folks!  8)
