The little-known starsector has a very compelling real-time ship piloting system http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di8qSM0TVdA
That looks like fun. They also have some of my money now. (No idea when I'm actually going to play it, though. What little gaming time I currently have is almost entirely devoted to TLF.)
I purchased Starsector because of this thread. It actually reminds me of what I would like fraxy to be if it was a full game, I only wish I could change the controls.
And Drox, but I ended up hating the rubber-band grind after 2 nights of binging - just not worth it. Well, it actually failed me because of the Diplomatic AI. The alliances have no meaning because:
- I can't ask them to do anything despite being their 'saviour',
- No way of informing either partner of invasion plans so as to coordinate,
- having to lie to them (rumours) to get anywhere,
- etc., etc. contributing to the lack of meaningful interaction replaced by endless spam.
It's not the same with TLF because the Hydral has not the same magnitude
Hero/Villain influence/reputation as an Operative. However, if the living simulation makes a brain-dead AI impression, I'm not so certain it will go down so well. Chris is still waiting for Pandora to polish off their diplomatic AI (It's coming! Slowly!).
