The main problem isnt so much simple turns (like a 90 degree turn), it's doing a full 180, which in some situations can be a necessity for a variety of reasons.   Cant really be done in a way that's viable though.... the radius of a U-turn is simply far too wide.  I'm not sure what to suggest for this.

How about loops?

Most games with this sort of movement style have some sort of special movement commands you can do.  I'm not sure if TLF needs or would benefit from that, but if 180 turns are a specific problem, perhaps adding just the one special movement where you do not change your movement vector THIS turn at all, but end up pointed 180 degrees in the opposite direction for NEXT turn would work?

(Essentially, you go forward at, say, half speed, and in theory you are looping up in 3d space, and then next turn you're counted as moving at that new speed in the exact opposite direction.  A diagram would help, but I don't have time to make one at the moment.)

Other possibility:
If you call a full stop (or are stopped due to using an ability), maybe next turn you can move in any direction without a turn radius? That would be even simpler and easier I imagine, and have many of the same tactical considerations...

This one would work, I think.

I think you should simply be allowed to turn tighter at the expense of slowing down (instead of it being some binary thing that requires a full stop). Right now, it seems that there is a maximum tightness to your turn regardless of the speed of your ship, and that just doesn't feel very natural. So if you want to select really far behind you, you're basically saying to turn while at max speed, in which case a larger radius should be expected, but if you select just a little bit behind you, you should be turning around at a smaller arc.

I hope I'm explaining that correctly.

I do think being able to set waypoints would be nice too.

As far as combat goes, I think it could use a way to go back to movement mode in case you set a course, go to shoot mode, then change your mind.

FYI, just hit escape.

As far as the rest goes... well, I'll poke around. ;)

Just to say that I really really liked turning arcs. Of course it can be improved as suggested (I would like to have possibility to go straight, then turn - or multiple turns per turn) , but now I consider it very enjoyable.

Thanks!

Sweet!  It's already very different in the next version, heh.  I think you'll like it even better there (and I KNOW Misery will).  See the patch notes for details.

Ha, nice.  I never played that one, but I loved Star Control II.

So a message pops up that the Peltians found a ancient artifact.

Ancient Hydral artifact has been found etc. So now I'm curious what that tech really is but I cant seem
to find it anywhere on the tech tab. Is there anyway I can find out or am I not supposed to know until
I meet them in battle?

It should say in the tooltip what kind of thing it was.  Either a general tech was unlocked for them, or a disease appeared, generally.  It's not a special ability, it's just a free normal planetary tech.

Oh wow, turn delay and acceleration. I didn't think that was coming at all. Enemy damage, projectile speed, etc. may need retuning now given that the player's flagship is less dodgey. I'm not an alpha tester, of course, so I really don't know what's going on behind the curtain.

As a fellow Star Control fan, I should warn you that a lot of people really hated that game's combat physics, especially if they didn't play it way back in the 90s.

Well, fortunately this has no relationship whatsoever.  I'm not sure why I made a comparison at all there, heh.

Were you wanting to be?  I don't have you on my list.
