So most of the time when I've started out the Andors look like pretty nice allies to have early on.

They generally have middling or somewhat positive relations with most other races early on and they have a lot of options to assist other races with internal problems. Sounds like a great deal right?

I guess it makes sense for there to be a catch, and I guess catch is that making use of their abilities seems to be a really slow process compared to the other races. Even with plenty of BP and Influence it can take a while to get them to do something because of how many of them are party specific. The time between election cycles means you do have to predict ahead a bit more to really make the best use of them.
This seems to go for internal problems as well. If the Andors take some kind of hit in a planetary health stat you can often expect that to "bleed" for quite a while until the trend finally reverses.

Because of that I get the impression their abilities are probably more useful mid/late-game when you have a few races in your Federation and want to keep their planets healthy.

Any other experiences you may have had dealing with the various races?

Is it me, or do the Peltians and sometimes Skylaxians have absurdly low population (single digit millions is typical) compared to the other races?

I think I usually see it more with the Evucks if they get an outer rim planet.  But doesn't surprise me that it happens elsewhere too.

And then there are the relatively normal population races.

And then there are the ones that just run off into the wild blue yonder because their race picked "warlike" rather than "equilibrium" as their policy of what to do about hitting the equilibrium population of their planet(s) :)

Depends on whether they live on ice dwarves / toxic overexploited planets. Getting hit by a meteor didn't help. :P

(snip)
I'd like to wait until they get their elections fixed before evaluating them seriously. They were the first non-Thoraxians to get tech, so I happily traded them off to a fw other people.

Oops, I meant Evucks, not Peltians  :-X Always get those two mixed up.

But yeah, it seems to really weaken them relative to the other races. Aside from the risk of invasion, it seems that outpost construction and tech stealing from other races are pop. limited; at least I think that's why my Burlusts and Thoraxians are getting techs (even without outposts) before the super-spy Evucks.

EDIT: Nope, Thoraxians were depopulated. So I guess I have no idea how tech works, then; it doesn't even seem to need the !!SCIENCE!! outpost like it says it does.

Interesting, and shouldn't your signature say Candide, not Candice? Great story, although a lot of inside jokes that tend to get lost.

Ah, whoops, thanks for the catch.

Haven't actually read the story :( Just remembered the line and thought it was... relevant to my interests, shall we say.
