1.005 coming tomorrow (Friday), rather than today.
« on: April 24, 2014, 09:17:21 pm »
An update: Sadly, I am not able to get this release out tonight.  I had hoped to, but this is just not polished enough for you yet.  I am getting close, but it's one of those fiddly things that makes it take quite a while.  I will try to get it out by midday EST if I can, so that any immediate feedback on issues can be taken care of before the weekend.

I'm on sole daddy duty all Saturday, so aside from my son's nap and then in the evening I won't have much time to make changes that day.  I'm thus hoping to get this into fully great shape before then.

The release features list for this next version is growing absolutely insane as it is, in a good way.  Lots crammed into tomorrow instead of spread out across yesterday and today: http://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=The_Last_Federation_Post-1.0_Release_Notes#Version_1.005

Anyway, apologies, but I'm off to get some sleep.  You don't want me coding in my current state, trust me! ;)  I'll be back at it in the morning.

Well, good things come to those who wait, I guess. :)

Looking at the patch notes, I'm glad that popping pirate bases on your own has been made more lucrative, but what about paying a race to spend one of their armadas to take a pirate base down? How much damage to pirates really do? Is there any real reason you'd ever do that rather than take the money and influence for doing it yourself? I mean, sure, the people you pay off will lose a couple ships, but that's it.
Furthermore, it is my opinion that Hari must be destroyed.

I KNEW you guys wouldnt be able to keep up that "one a day" bit for long.

.....because you seem to have stuck like THIRTY things into this one!  Good grief.  Just amazing, really.

And "once a week, new thing!" is going to become 200 or so instead.  :P

Haha! You are going to end up waking up in the middle of the night to go to your son's bedside and confuse him with a thoraxian larva  :D!

As great as you guys are doing with this game, Chris, no worries about any delays. :)

It's  amazing, and overwhelming, and difficult, and confusing, and fascinating, and I don't know what the hell I am even doing half the time.

And it's totally fun anyway! Haha.

But yeah, take your time, ya'll.  I appreciate that you guys give us any post release support at all beyond bugswatting, even more so this quality and level of support. :)

Regarding the discussion in the thread about trade, it might be better to do large polished patches which are polished once in a while, instead of daily patches.

I feel  the little annoyances are out of the way with the auto-resolve feature and then it is about time to tackle the bigger problems (trade, pirates, rescources, whatever). Like Paradox I think it makes sense to revise one field after another. I am afraid that haphazard patching solves ohne problem and creates two new.

Other than that I think TLF is a winner, but I feel we haven't seen the full complexity until now. There are many great ideas in it, many layers,  but it is not fully fleshed out I think. There are many things that need rebalancing or new options to make the relevant for consideration to the player. Right now it is a good and fun game, but it can even be more and I am sure it will get there.
