With which mech didn't you complete a run?
« on: February 03, 2016, 01:18:54 am »
I'm curious to know which mech was always a failure for your runs. With which mech did you never beat the Warden and/or Terminus.
Which mechs do you rarely pick.
Please explain also, why this is the case.

for me it is white gloss/mech with gravity missiles (also the one that starts with familiar but I've just never really got round to doing a full run with him) now
1st white gloss for some reason if I was forced to give a reason id say it was because I played him so long in development.

2 now gravity mech is just a mech I utterly hate the mine are super gimmicky(to me personally whenever there's a trap mechanic in games it always feels gimmicky to me and way more work than benefit for me to really get enthusiastic about it) and the gravity missile never helps me at best and at worst gets me hit but I've lost track of were everything that it sucked up is going now as well as everything that hasn't been sucked up.

for mechs I rarely pick? it would be familiar mech and flame tank familiar mech because I don't like how slowwwww his main gun is(I tend to go for as much speed as I possibly mostly because I really enjoy having lost of attack speed) and the flame tank? I like him but I have bad memory's of trying and failing hard to beat early bosses with him(before I think he got a range buff I may be mistaken there though) so really I love the little dude o yea and I literally just remember as I was writing this red shift I achualy cant give you a reason for this apart from green envy's better and he's got the same rad secondary.

Good work.
Do you play all mechs equally or is there anyone you don't like to play?

I have finished the game with the Flame tank, White Gloss and Deep Blue. I think I can beat it with Green Envy, but Indigo Dipole is a little hard for me to use and I lack the patience to play with the Redshift, thats why I avoid it so often.

I pick Redshift the least. I always like to be moving so to stay still seems to break the momentum for me. On another note, I just beat my first hard run using the green envy mech. I think I'm leaning towards that mech to be my favorite one.

Redshift, and maybe the purple one too.

I've just spent WAY too much time in "tester mode" using mostly the basic mech.

while were on the topic do you fellows think that the mech balance is in a happy place right now? I do although the envy feels to good to me(although that will change when the machine gun gets nerfed most likely) and the purple one(minelayer) feels weak to me but I think that's a preference thing really since nobody else seems to think so.

I have never completed a run, in any mech.  >D

And now I will make sure no one else ever does either...

In general, I just start getting impatient on Floors 3+, "Caltrops, eh, I can take the damage," and then... I also can't play at anything lower than normal, because that would show I'm inept. And occasionally very frequently I run into some half finished creations, some many of which cannot be killed. So many runs have been ended by the Reanimator.

And then once I get killed, I start thinking I should go work on fixing it rather than actually playing.

How would anyone feel about quick nav for already explored rooms when the game is open and paused? I tend to run all over cleared rooms, but unlike Isaac the rooms are much larger and it takes a lot longer to back track for missing missiles or whatever. So if I'm in a cleared room, and I want to go to a cleared room, I can just click on the map and zoom, I'm there. Removes tedious time spent navigating and gets you back into the action quickly. Thoughts?

Maybe this will help you: Search every single room. It may take more time (and even if you are are impatient), it is worth it. Not because of credits or missiles, not even for weapons you may find. Only because of one thing that is worth more than anything you can find: xp. In my opinion experienxe points are the most valuable resource in this game and what is the selling point to me. It's also the reason why I prefer this game over Isaac. It gives you the control you need in these types of games. in isaac you are in the mercy of the RNG system. What you get is what defines your playstyle. This is true in SR at the same amount but on the other side SR balances this out with the experience and level system. You level up your mech and the perks you can select are predefinied in the modding language, so there is no way that you won't get what you need. Found a fast firing but weak weapon? Take a damage perk. Start with the Deep Blue mech? But some levels in missile storage. This amount of control gives you the edge you need.

So more experience is always better. At my first runs I tried to rush through everything because I played it the same way how I played Isaac: Look as fast as possible for the boss so you loose as little health as possible before you can descend. This was wrong, Sr plays entirely different. You may do this and still succed but then you need more luck with the items you find.

This was also helpful for me: Look for stuff that deals a lot of damage in a single hit. Railgun is good. If you can take out most enemies with one or two hits, they won't become a threat to begin with. This does not apply to bosses obviously but if you can kill those fast enough you might survive the onslaught.

Keep a second configuration file folder so you can play the live version and have your modded configuration folder to do work out of.

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Red shift looked interesting, however it seemed counter to how the game would feel (action packed rather then a TBS)

Flame tank was what I used and the only one I am really interested in.
Credits / keys are too plentiful (or more to the point: loot is too boring) to consider treaure mech.
Indigo seems interesting, but I'd prefer static defenses over a missile launcher I cannot always rely on.
I would maybe try white glass just do to excellent base stats.

Life is short. Have fun.
