Another two updates!  These one have four enemies, three of which are community-created.  This also fixes the performance-eating aspects of our own recently-added Demesne enemy.  And there was a performance regression in 1.010 in general that is now fixed.  Sorry about all the hitching that was causing -- it was worst on linux, but happening on all three OSes.

This new version also brings us to... Unity 5!  Overall that doesn't change a whole lot in your user experience, however it does let us lock the cursor to the window, which I know a lot of folks were really wanting (me too).  I know I made some flubs with firing during recording some videos thanks to my mouse cursor going out of the window before.

Aside from that, we spent a huge amount of time -- almost all of our working hours allocated for Starward Rogue on Saturday through today -- on smoother diagonal wall collisions.  That has been a big problem unfortunately, because in version 1.011 it was causing some woes with getting stuck in certain walls and being unable to pick up certain items, which was very frustrating.  Right now we've simply disabled that again, and I'm not sure of any other way around that.  For now we will spend our time working on other unrelated things off the list of things you guys have been asking for tweaks with.

More to come soon!  Because of the recent layoffs we are in a slower development phase now, so the updates won't be daily.  But there will be one or two a week at the very least, and likely more than that (particularly thanks to community contributions and our awesome volunteers).

We've also resumed working on Stars Beyond Reach, and are now working on our other next project as well (Keith on the one and Blue and I on the other, respectively), so we have a plan for moving forward as a smaller company now.

Actually, I believe all of the enemies were community created by Ptarth, unless another one I'm missing snuck in.

Phew, I can slow down a bit on the hard-core testing and stuff and maybe enjoy the game a bit more ;)

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

It's my unofficial job here at Arcen games. ;)

I say all of that a bit tongue-in-cheek.

Yow, too soon man. >.>

I didn't actually realize there was a new patch up, much less two. So glad to hear about the angles, that's an improvement I've wanted for a while. Thanks Chris!

::) sigh.  I've never held an official position here.  I'm just a community volunteer that's been doing it for years.  It's the best job I've ever had  :P

The diagonal walls came and went back out.  The improved version worked nicely except it would catch players in doorways and not let go.  It also would keep you from collecting items in between two diagonals.

Greetings Chris,

Love the work you're doing on Starward Rogue. Pretty sure it's going to find a permanent home on my channel (it will at least have a permanent home in my gaming collection and see lots of play).

One small request: could you make the cursor lock an option? It's a bear and a half to record a video when a game traps my cursor. Unfortunately, my audio recording software doesn't have global shortcut keys, so if I don't have it active I can't start the recording. I've managed to work around it by using a separate workspace to launch the audio, but then I can't monitor the waveforms to make sure it's recording correctly.

Thanks for the consideration!

Cheers,
Frog

It's not in the patch notes, but I'm relatively certain the new boss is in this build too.  Probably.  I, however, forgot to write it in there.   I mean, me, remember stuff?   Hah!

Also I hadnt realized Demesne was causing performance implosions.  Oops.

The game needs to tell me these things.  With like, an email or something.  Or I apparently never notice, hah.

We've also resumed working on Stars Beyond Reach, and are now working on our other next project as well (Keith on the one and Blue and I on the other, respectively), so we have a plan for moving forward as a smaller company now.

Can you already give some hints on what those other next projects are about? Or are they in a too early state yet to make anything public?

Going by past history, it's going to be very, very different.  :P

Couldn't say, but I got the sense that the survival game was replaced by what became Starward Rogue before work ever started on it.

pretty much but that was the original idea behind it I would aboustley be hyped for a survival game from arcen though especially considering how devoid the genra is of real games (that aren't radioactive early access titles) hopefully with a title not as exhausting as life at the end of the universe though.
