So would you?

Yes. I would gladly pay $5-$10 to be able to play online or over LAN with my friends.
No. I'm not interested.

Yea, the main principle behind playable network-MP models for these kinds of split-second action games is:

"Lie"

"well, AVWW1 and 2 are kind of shmups and they have multiplayer so SR should be good too"
The MP in the Valley games added months to the overall development time, was intensely painful to get working, and never really was all that satisfactory in feel :)

I love how you say that with a happy smile at the end when in reality it was probably an extremely irritating situation, I imagine.  I personally wouldn't bother with a happy face, it'd just be like a little explosion image or something.

I only barely remember that bit of that game's beta/development myself, that wasn't that long after I first found this place I think.  But it was an interesting beta to play through, I remember that much.

I sort of wish I was around to test game but considering that from what I've heard it wasn't a pleasant experience for Chris so perhaps its for the best that this games testing period was pretty relaxed (at least for me)

Well, I just discovered that there's a way to play games designed for Local Co-op only (such as Enter the Gungeon or Nuclear Throne) through the internet or over LAN with a friend. It's a fairly complicated process (they explain it here), but given that it's technically possible, I'm definitely a lot more excited for the prospect of Local co-op for Starward Rogue. I hope you guys can add it in the future, I'd LOVEE to play with my friends.

Edit: Just tried it over LAN. It's actually not complicated at all and it seems to work great. I'm now very excited at the prospect of playing Starward Rogue "Local Multiplayer" over LAN with my friends.
