Drm-free release?
« on: January 25, 2016, 04:40:44 pm »
I know there are a lot of people who are interested in this so I thought I will set the question here. Is Humblestore going to get updated with a drm-free version? If yes in what timeframe.

When is the game going to be available in drm-free version on your store?

I don't know how big the number of people is who wan't such a version but it could definitely help with the sales a bit if it were available soon.

As for gog a few of us are pushing there to get it approved, hopefully soon.

Answers:

1. Yes!  100% for sure we'll have the DRM-free build on Humble.

2. It will be this week, barring anything super-unforseen.

3. I'd prefer to get the fix in for the XBox One controller before I actually do that, though, just to give people an initial build with support for that better in place.

4. Having a similar build on our site is something that will happen in that same timeframe.  I've just been slow off the mark on that (sooo many things going on, and then this weekend I basically just crashed out).

5. Thank you so much everyone who is pushing on GOG; hopefully they will come around on things.  Honestly at this point I won't mind having "two launches" of the game, though, since this whole game is coming out of the blue.  Perhaps by the time they get it up and going, it will be more of an obvious buy for people coming to it, since there is more coverage by then, and the steam store reviews are piling up and positive at this point, etc.

Drm-free yes, but not yet, for fear of piracy?
so the Steam release is still an early access.
How I hate the exclusion that Steam (and its consummers and devs) is doing on the pc,
or soon on the gc? Gabbe Computer, nothing personal else being in his hive.
Exclusion? Join Steam. Steam spam borg "drm-free is futile".

Um understandable logic but no, they were really too busy and time/money-constrained to do everything at the same time here. IIRC the two versions have been synchronised for some of their other games whenever they have the luxury.

Maybe. But is that not always Steam first??
I remember about BionicDues, I didn't bought before a sale on GOG for I saw it was a Steam game first.
(Okay GOG is not easy, but there was no drm-free version for long)
Steam first? So I'm second. Then your game will be second for me.
And I discovered it was excellent, not my first Arcen game, but the first I really play.

Let me just point out that we use no drm in Steam.  So in other words there is no encryption, no steam-requiring parts, nothing.  Want to steal that game after you have it on Steam?  Just go into the folder where it is installed from steam, and hit Copy.  Then paste where you like and zip it up.  Do that to run it on a thumb drive yourself if you want.  Use it to upload to piratebay and actually steal it.  Whatever.

A steam release, particularly in our case, does nothing to protect against piracy.

It has nothing to do with piracy. The game got big updates that covered post lauch controller issues + was upgraded to a newer Unity engine. What you will get in a drm-free release will be a polished release with no big patches needed. Besides the patches that bring more content and fix minor bugs/issues.
