They don't, they have stolen it from the wardens. Notice how The Warden's attacks are all made up of attacks from other enemies? There is a clear hint.

Or it's just me using the magical power of copy-pasta.  Some of the created functions for earlier bosses & enemies turned out to have great versatility, so they've been re-used in numerous forms; I see no reason to re-write what's already there.  Some of the reuses are obvious, some are not.

If the attacks used by any of the bosses tie into something story-related though, it's not intentional.  As a rule they're just whatever I come up with at the time.

as we all know Rodney persificly designed those to have story significance and made misery think he was putting them in for mechanics.

We actually have a huge amount of voice work as well as written work waiting, but not part of the game yet.  It may wind up being part of the first expansion at this point, because it's a lot of stuff!
Please don't put the story in another expansion. You may take parts of it or an extended lore of it in the expansion but putting up a whole expansion just for the story is a bad move.
This won't give you more sales that you need, trust me. Gamers hate nothing more than DLCs that they consider as part of the main game. And story should be part of the main game, at least the major amount of it.

You may however extent the story into the next game. I still suspect that Rodney will turn out as rogue AI/robot that has been imprisoned there on purpose and in his attempt to flee he led to the whole "stuck in the side of a star" situation.
All the robots you encounter may eaither be inmates or (like the Warden) guardians of the prisoner ship. And Rodney might be the final boss of the expansion. We will see.

The expansion isnt going to be JUST about story.   There should be plenty to appeal to all sorts of players.
Wait. Does this mean the a first (or even two) expansions are already confirmed for SR?
I am confused ???.
Where did this come from :)?

EDIT:
If this is a thing you might want to start banging the drum for this now to have a chance to build some sales-boosting expectations, right?
Would not do to have these pop up as another stealth release.
Posting a couple of steam news leading up to the release, each time outlining a part of what is coming might help here.

I am inclined to agree here. Depends on the concrete contents of the first expansion, though.
If there is more than that you might okay.

THAT bit sure isnt under my control, heh.

That'd be for Chris or whoever to do.   I wouldnt even understand the process.  I always assumed there were like, mystical rituals involved.

It has to be determined to be worth the cost of putting the hours into it though, for him to do it as a "for free" upgrade here.   Okay yes I know the phrasing on that is a little off... but my point is, the "free" stuff becomes alot more limited when the sales just werent really there at the start.    Chris could probably explain it better than I can, but yeah, it's unlikely to be added to the game right now as a free bit.  Things like enemies and such are a different beast altogether.

Anyway, as I said, if the story stuff is in the first DLC, it wont be the only thing in it; it's unlikely to even affect how much gameplay content ends up in it.

But dont worry about that right now.  That's all some time away yet.

When there's more concrete info, maybe Chris will post specifics about it.

....or just taunt everyone with infuriating teasers, that's always been an Arcen tradition  :P

Sure, I was more addressing Arcen as a whole ;).
Maybe you could mention this in some of your talks/emails? might be good to remind him of it.

Oh, yes :D.
There is no tease on earth like Chris - definitely.

I'm the one doing the teasing this time.  >D

Like Misery said, it's all but certain some of it will go into the base game as an update. Some of it will go into expansion 1, but no matter what there will be new game material and story. I'm guessing that the two will happen around the same time like the last TLF expansion, but that's not up to me.

Of course, expansion packs might not happen at all. It's like a malicious version of the chicken and the egg. Here's hoping good word of mouth and returning customers.
