Crystal Mother Misery Mode video
« on: February 05, 2016, 03:32:31 pm »
Here you go.  The first misery mode version boss is now complete.  Mostly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dr0RsbxZgE

About that third pattern:

Thanks to CRAPPY RECORDING SOFTWARE, the green "pusher" is nigh-invisible in the video.  Really, I haaaaaaaaate screen-recording....anything.  But it's there, and it's the reason I have to constantly spin around the boss, because it's big, and you either get out of the way or get run over.

Also: the boss's hitbox is all sorts of glitchy.  I have NO IDEA WHY.  In that first pattern?  normally I get even closer to it, at specific points in the dodging.  However, the game decides "LOL NOPE" and puts this gigantic square hitbox of doom around it.... despite it being, as best I can tell, NOT defined in the XML that way.  So I have no idea what's up with that.  It basically means that if I get too CLOSE to the boss, as opposed to actually touching it, I'll take damage from an invisible source.

Got a video with the F7 on?

In the second phase there is a ZigzagBlue that doesn't seem to do much. Is that intended? Did a shot glitch or perhaps is that a non invisible source bullet?

Just a non-invisible one.  The spinning one is attached to it.

o lordy that looks utterly terrifying.

And it's an early-game boss :D

The late-game ones will get.... "interesting".  They're gonna be a freaking nightmare to test.

Misery, wtf, you got HIT! Several times! I think y'all need to fix that hitbox now. If Misery gets hit, the game's bugged. ;)

It is fixed, thankfully, if you didn't see that in the patch notes recently.  It's not as small of a hitbox as I'm used to (I'm used to hitboxes being like, one pixel) and a few bullet hitboxes seem a bit off (Wallmaster's blue things, for instance... go have a look at those with F7 and see just how messed up they are) but it works well enough for this game.

But I'm impatient, so I smacked into things anyway!

Coulda been worse.  The previous couple of takes were downright embarrassing as I actually crashed right into the boss instead of into the bullets, in the first phase.  Sigh... I've done that more than a few times in pretty much any bullet-hell shmup that I play.  On the plus side, I discovered how bugged out the boss's hitbox is.  At least in this game smacking right into the boss isnt instant death.

Or it coulda been MUCH worse.  Coulda been what I call "Last Bullet Syndrome".  Where I dodge EVERYTHING, there's like 1 bullet left on screen, so I just smack right into it.  This makes perfect sense somehow, I'm sure.  Ugh.  Now THAT one is embarrassing.

Yes, I fear them too.  I fear how many times I'm going to have to test them.

I blame Ikaruga whenever I seem to deliberately crash into a bullet.

What about Battle Garegga instead? The game where running head first into a bullet is the proper response to getting an extra life;
also dodging power ups.

Please Misery nothing Raizing/8ing inspired. I like enemies I can kill, that shoot bullets you can actually see.

Then there's Hitogata Happa: all shmup players should play that, entire game is about intentionally kamikaze-ing into bosses.

I cant even emphasize how much I agree with that.

I really, REALLY dont see the appeal of their games.  I never did, I never will, simple as that.   The whole "suicide or you'll die harder" (???) bit that happens in their games doesnt even make a lick of sense.  Talk about counterintuitive...   and the less said about those damn needle bullets everything fires, the better.

Just makes me that much more glad that this game is all about big fat colorful shots.

As for Hitogata Happa....  I've never been too sure what to think of that one.  I'm more familiar with that developer's other games.

that sounds like something for bullet hell masochists to a stranger like my self if the bullets are truly as small as you say they are(if this games shots were that small Id be able to get through the 3rd floor at the most).

Yeah, they're that small.  They can be genuinely hard to see, AND, they tend to also blend in with the game's extremely overdone explosions.

It's just a bloody mess to me, is what it is.  Doesnt help that I'm a little nearsighted.  With most games this isnt actually an issue, but with their games... yeah, it is.   Though from what I hear, you dont need to be nearsighted in order to not be able to tell what's going on in those.
