Modding and that message made at the end of January
« on: January 28, 2016, 05:38:15 pm »
  • For my part, I'm going to continue futzing around.
  • I will try to not give Misery & Pepisolo as much work to do on cleaning up my messy xml. I'm getting better, I promise.
  • I should have another 6 new mid-level enemies with new previously unseen mechanics sometime today, snake ninjas! I'm a little worried they are too annoying, we'll see.
  • I'll continue adding non-grammatical hyphens, extra commas, and bulleted bulletted bullet lists with bullets.
  • I'll continue making mantis reports of bugs I've found in the xml reader.
  • I'll also continue making mantis reports of bugs I think I've found in the xml reader, but are actually just my bad or wrong xml code.

I dunno about Pepisolo, but I dont try cleaning up messy XML to begin with :P    This being because I"d have to clean up.... every single thing I've made.   That'd take awhile.  It'd take effort.  Cant have that.

Dont be worried about enemies being too annoying, too.  Nothing's going to out-annoy the Blaze Cannon.  I will take steps to make sure this is the case, if necessary.  It is the official Stupid Flying Medusa Head of the game, I shall keep it that way!  I could give it more bullets, really.  Arent I unpleasant?

Anyway, I for one am not about to give up on the whole thing just yet.  For now, still business as usual.

Also:  I havent forgotten about your boss stuff.  I had a really bad night though (in addition to the news, also had an allergy explosion again, because why not) so pretty much nothing at all got done on my end.  But I aint forgotten about it.

No worries, we're glad for the help. Coding wise, you have much better coding ability than myself so things seem fine, although the neater the better, I guess. You seem to try a lot of interesting things, too, which I learn from while doing the integration. I would say to try to make things as complete as possible, though, beforehand as I'm not the greatest at looking at and understanding another person's code in order to add things that might be missing. Also, you would probably be able to think of a few better refinements to make to your own design than I can, so I want you to be happy that your design is entering the game in the bast shape it can be. One of the enemies from your last batch is virtually ready for the game, the rotary blade guy. It's got some fancy new antigravity art that fits rather well, I think, I've called it Metal Grinder -- like meatgrinder, but for mechs! Cheers!

As someone who still owns a Castlevania NES cartridge (and Castlevania III!): nah. Blaze Turrets make me mad, but they're nowhere near infuriating enough to devise entire builds around evading or alpha striking like the damn heads.

Clearly then, improvements are needed!

Do I make the Blaze Cannon boss?  Do I?  I JUST MIGHT.

No, make Legion. Or rather don't, I might have to KILL YOU if you did.

The reason that the medusas were so annoying is how persistent they were and how they spawned infinitely. If we want to replicate the effect (which we don't/do FOR SCIENCE!!) we need an infinitely spawning enemy that can phase through debris.

Hm.

An persistent type enemy that spawns once, and upon destruction spawns two more in the original location. Upon their death, three, and then four. That'd do it.
