A question about main weapons
« on: February 18, 2016, 04:09:43 am »
So I'm creating some new main weapons because I don't think there's much variation in the game now. But I notice that most of the main weapons:

1. Aren't marked to spawn in weapons shops.
2. Mostly have the attribute do_not_seed_if_x_floors_down="2" (or 3). Even the "FreestandingRareMain" items, meaning they will almost never spawn.

Is this an intentional thing? Or are they supposed to be using the do_not_seed_until_x_floors_down parameter instead?

That may be an issue. I've certainly gotten a replacement main weapon on floor 1. I actually don't like getting a new main weapon that is from one of the other mechs. If I do, I'd really rather they come later than earlier.

Just as a note, this is all something I'm going to be going over as time goes on and my work on balance changes continue.  There's actually quite a few weapons in the game, but some of the item pools are definitely weird.  I could actually make their appearances in shops a quick priority, as you're right about that.

But yeah, that all is definitely changing; just as a result of it, more weapons should appear to be available over time.  Some things are getting totally gutted and changed (like the new Riot Suppressor; very, very different now).  Okay, alot of things actually.  It should help quite a bit with variety.

Er.... how could that thing get any more nerfed than it's original version?  It barely did anything.

Uh... did the update with the Suppressor already come out?  I buffed the funky hell out of it recently.  Did you guys already get that?  I cant keep track of these releases on Steam half the time (I'm always playing my dev copy of the game, not the Steam version).

Are you kidding me? The Riot Supressor is one of the strongest weapons ingame.
Or... wait. Is there a main weapon variation of it that I don't know? I mean the energy based one.

It sounds like you're already using the big one I set up, then.  The original Riot Surpressor was a thing that sat there, and shot out a few tiny bullets that had next to no travel time; in other words, it never hit anything.  The bullet range was *very* short.  The thing may as well have just been called a mine layer.

The version I made fires LOTS of small bullets, and they have a long range and thus cover a huge area, and have piercing.  The central shot lasts awhile.

These shots and the main bullet are all yellow.

It is the energy weapon, yes.  It costs 50 energy per use.  Tends to be good against groups of things, kinda wasted if used just against single targets when there's other things in the room.

It's definitely supposed to be very strong, thus the cost.  I may increase that number a bit though.  But I dont intend on altering the effect of the shot.  It's useful and fun right now.

Couple of quick things:
I notice there's the Incinerator(Flame Tank's starting weapon) and the Flamethrower. Same icon, same visuals, appears to use the same hitboxes. However the Flamethrower stat box claims it's more powerful and has a wider spread, but reduced range, none of which seem to be true. I'm guessing the Flamethrower is something of an Incinerator 'copy' meant for other mechs to find?

The Cluster Bomb primary deals self-damage if it explodes nearby. Intentional/Bug/Oversight?

Hm, I'd forgotten the flamethrower weapon even existed.  I might have a look at that, though I'm not quite sure what to do with it; low-range weapons are typically really bad in this.  I'm almost tempted to just replace it with something else, since the flame tank already uses something like this.

The cluster bomb thing is a bug... probably.    There's another bug related to those too, which is why I havent done anything with them.
