Red Reaper?
« on: January 16, 2016, 11:18:34 pm »
Whats's the trick with this guy?
He seems to kill me every time as soon as I encounter him on Normal.

Anybody else having trouble?

You're supposed to play matador with him--stand back, his vulnerable space and get out of the way. Unfortunately he's been given a bunch of tricks in an effort to make him less one note, which has turned him into a nigh-guaranteed kill if you don't blow him up with all your consumables and missiles.

Just been heavily nerfed:

Movement speed down
Turning speed way down
Life leech reduced a lot
Chainy attack no longer stops shots or missiles.

Hopefully should be a lot more manageable now. Thanks for the feedback.

I find him easier than the Hunter. You can only hurt him when you shoot directly between the two scythe-like beams. Just let him chase you and shoot between the beams, when he starts his mid beam, quickly move out of the way and run to another corner of the room. repeat this until he's dead.

Hmmm, hopefully I haven't overnerfed him...we'll see. I'll just tune him back up a bit if I have.

I just fought him a few minutes ago and he didn't seem too bad.

Tried again and it was much easier (though I've got a stack of attack ups too). Could be that I was moving around to much to properly hit it. Nerf the leech effect and I think it's fine.

Ok, I'll probably push his speed back up. Nerfing leech was definitely necessary, yeah, also those changes so that its chain doesn't break your shots are good and make a lot of sense.

Don't fear the Reaper...

I haven't had much complaint with it over the last few versions.  The Banshee on the other hand...

I actually found him easy, and I spend most of the fight RIGHT NEXT TO HIM.  I just leap out of the way when he's about to stop spinning.

Though, I'm aware I'm not the best one to judge difficulty here.

Curiously this one did nit give me much trouble yet. You are talking about the regular enemy right?

I think it's more a matter of learning what Banshees are about. Yeah, the pattern is monstrous and scary, but once you learn how to deal with them they're not too difficult, I don't think. If you spot a Banshee, don't immediately just shoot because they never fire back at you until you fire at them. If you prepare for them -- and you can take this as far as clearing the room first before dealing with them -- you should be able beat them 9 times out of 10 without taking any damage.  Attack, then run either behind them as far away as possible or behind some suitable cover, then just finish them off when they're zipping around.

I do think they need to be in a different category though.  One problem is that they're appearing in some rooms where their attack doesnt actually fit properly (meaning, there's nowhere to move to in order to avoid it).

They're also super common right now.

A slightly higher category would help with both things.  I dont know which one to suggest though.

Pretty much this.  Killing them isn't a problem, it's the fact that a lot of times they spawn in small rooms where you have nowhere to run, or later versions that fill up a medium-large sized room before you can find cover.

There is a 3 section room where the middle section has a ton of pipes (you know the one).  I was on floor 4 cruising around in the Flame Tank and took out a couple of easy mobs.  Then BOOM, red tide...   ???   Eat that one and move up to find red variant banshee in the middle.  Nuke it real good and run like hell to find a TP pad... nope red tide death...   ::)  GG... bleh
