PS3 Controller Support?
« on: January 19, 2016, 10:49:14 am »
Hi there. Thought I try again to test this but using a controller as the keyboard is quite annoying with respect to moving on the diagonals and going through doors.

What I found is the PS3 Controller partially works, but I'm currently having difficulties getting any of the buttons to work. Is the PS3 controller supported?

The only thing that seems to work is the two sticks (movement & aimed fire), so I was also wondering whether I'm still supposed to use the keyboard for some functions?

Thanks.

I'm using a PS3 controller but it's laid out like an XBox 360 one.

Using MotioninJoy driver with Better DS3 actually running the configuration settings.  It's works rather well for me so far.

Opened your save. My computer wept. Switched to the ST planet and ship icons filled my screen, so I zoomed out. Game told me that it _was_ totally zoomed out. You could seriously walk from one end of the inner grav well to the other without getting your feet cold.

Thanks for the info.

I'm using an iMac so I can't seem to find an MotioninJoy actual OS X based driver.

For what its worth, the PS3 controller works perfectly with X-Com without any third party drivers, so I've been assuming it should have been just a case of mapping it via the setting menu. However when I've tried a couple of times nothing seem to be recognised/stored. Anyone have any further ideas.

Its probably a preference thing, but I just can't get comfortable with the keyboard for this game. The controller (with what works for me) feels a lot better, so I'm hoping for PS3 support will win the day. :)

Best I can find short notice.  There is a Mac section down a bit on the page... maybe that will work?

Ok it appears that part of the issue is because I paired the PS3 after the game was started. I can now assign them via the setting menu. Its a pity there wasn't a default PS3 mapping to select from.

For new players (such as myself) this type of thing is a hinderance to get to play the game and something I would love to see as a selectable option for some of the most common controllers.

If I'm not mistaken, the 360 controller is supported.  The PS3 controller isn't natively supported by Windows so good luck getting that one in there.

I dont recall if this is the case, but if Inputmapper supports the PS3 controller, that's a MUCH better program to use than the godawful mess that is MotionInJoy.

I use it for the PS4 controller, which is how I play this.

I'm using DS3.  It only needed the driver from Motioninjoy.  It was the first thing I found that worked for me right off.
