Wonky Mouse controls?
« on: January 20, 2016, 12:35:00 pm »
Has anyone found that the mouse controls changed recently, making it much harder to aim?

It seems to me like the game used to use Nuclear Throne style controls: the mech was mostly centered on-screen, keeping more-or-less the same angle/distance between the mouse and the mech. This made it easier to reason about moving the mouse and aiming (at least for me). Am I wrong about this? Did this not use to be the case?

Now, the mouse seems to stick to the same location on-screen, while the mech moves around freely. This means that to shoot at a fixed angle, you constantly have to adjust both your mech's location and the mouse.

Even worse, sometimes the mouse *DOES* track your mech, due to the location of the mech on-screen. So once in a while you get the old Nuclear Throne style behavior, making it even more confusing and inconsistent.

I just booted up Nuclear Throne to check, and indeed they keep your character around the same part of the screen constantly so that the angle to the mouse always stays fairly consistent.

I don't know if this is supposed to be a feature or a bug.

I noticed this as well.
Another effect seems to be that "turning around the mech" in terms of aiming seems to take longer the farther afar the crosshair is from the mech.

Maybe this is related to the recent viewport changes?
Can't say that I noticed anything that was improved by this (or had an issue with the way viewport behaved before).
So I would not mind to get the old mouse behavior back.

Care to throw this on Mantis?

I noticed 'something' different in 0.855 but couldn't quite place my finger on it when playing last night with keyboard and mouse.
